Danny Boyle’s28 Days Laterhelped to redefine the zombie horror sub-genre with its terrifyingly fast Rage zombies. The director is returning to the genre with the long-awaited28 Years Later, and one of the movie’s stars,Jodie Comer, recently revealed that the zombies are just as terrifying on set as they are on-screen. Comer stars alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes in the new movie, which is set to release on June 29, 2025. The first trailer teased the return of the terrifying sprinting zombies, but Comer says audiences ain’t seen nothin' yet.
During an interview withEmpire Magazine, Jodie Comer revealed she was terrified of shooting alongside the film’s zombies during production.“The thing about our stunt performers playing the infected is they really don’t take the speed off for you,“theKilling Evestar revealed. In28 Days Later, the virus is spread through infected monkeys that are accidentally released by well-meaning but naive environmentalists. The virus quickly spreads, turning those affected into incredibly fast, incredibly aggressive zombies.

Despite knowing she was on a movie set with extras and stunt performers in make-up, Comer said the experience of shooting with the “zombies” felt surprisingly real.“They chase you. There were so many moments where I felt like I was actually running for my life,“she continued. While Jodie Comer was terrified on set, director Danny Boyle reportedly loved being back in the proverbial trenches. Comer recalled:
“He just said, ‘I love this stuff,'” I said, ‘Why?‘‘Because you just have to go there. you’re able to’t fake it. You have to really go there in order for the audience to be with you.'”

Who Does Jodie Comer Play in ‘28 Years Later?’
28 Years Lateris set (surprise, surprise),28 years after Danny Boyle’s original film, starring Cillian Murphy. Their son, Spike (played by Alfie Williams), offers a fresh perspective on the apocalypse, as he was born into the infected world. Comer didn’t reveal much about her character, or Isla’s son, butshe did tease, “Spike’s a real beacon of light for her.”
