Medical dramas are a perfect comfort show for many, but Max’s latest entry in the prolific subgenre brings some interesting touches to the table.The Pitt, in a similar vein to24, takes place over the course of a single 15-hour shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. Each episode spans a single hour in this particularly grueling shift in the emergency department. Thoughthe series features a large cast, there’s a special emphasis on Michael Robinavitch (Noah Wyle), a senior attending physician who is still coming to terms with everything that happened during the 2020 pandemic. Tracy Ifeachor, Katherine LaNasa, Fiona Dourif, Patrick Ball, and Isa Briones are some other names making up the other resident doctors at the facility.
A Gripping Medical Series
To say thatThe Pitttakes an honest look at one of the most traumatic occupations in medicine is an understatement. The incorporation of the COVID-19 pandemic into Michael’s backstory is something that’s tremendously appreciated. It not only gives his character some more depth, but it holds a mirror to the experiences shared by many medical staff in real life. Plus, the format of the series itself makes it perfect for binging, adding a degree of tension that you can’t really find in its contemporaries.
The White Lotus
Despite being planned as a limited series, the enduring popularity ofThe White Lotusled to its rebirth as an anthology series. Created and directed by Mike White (School of Rock),The White Lotusfixates itself on the fictional White Lotus resort chain, where its clientele are afflicted by everything from interpersonal drama and substance abuse, to power plays and high emotions. Every season features abrand-new cast of characters, with the latest including the likes of Patrick Schwarzenegger, Michelle Monaghan, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, Walton Goggins, Carrie Coon, and Leslie Bibb.
Max’s Mega-Successful Anthology
Despite a lengthy hiatus between seasons,The White Lotuscame back to near-universal acclaim, taking a turn towards more dark storytelling while utilizing its brand-new cast to their fullest potential. A familiar formula is given new life with some interesting twists, and some surprising returning faces only add to the escalating tension with every subsequent episode. Of course, if you haven’t caught up with the other two seasons, you’re highly encouraged to do so. They still stand strong on their own. Over a dozen Primetime Emmy wins ought to be a testament to that.
Dune: Prophecy
Dune: Prophecyhad a lot riding on it, given the immense success of Denis Villeneuve’sDunefilms. Thankfully, this prequel seriesdelivers on its fantastical premise, with much of the same production value from the films retained for the small screen.Dune: Prophecyfocuses on the formation of the Bene Gesserit, a group of superhumans whose incredible political ties and supernatural abilities become a driving force in the laterDunefilms. Sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen (Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, respectively) are tasked with forming the beginnings of the Bene Gesserit as they take on the numerous forces that threaten humanity’s existence. Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, and Chris Mason are just a few additional names attached to this sprawling prequel series.
An Incredible Prequel Series
A fun treat for bothDunefans and hard science fiction enthusiasts alike,Dune: Prophecyis the next big step in this sprawling Frank Herbert franchise. Alison Schapker’s previous work onAlias,Fringe, andAltered Carbonwonderfully set her up for her showrunner role here, and both Emily Watson and Olivia Williams are impressive in their respective lead roles. The former was even nominated for an Emmy for their performance in HBO’sChernobyl, whereas the latter was stunning inThe Sixth SenseandHanna.
Creature Commandos
The first television series in James Gunn’s newly-revitalized DCU,Creature Commandoscontinues Gunn’s irreverent take on DC’s lesser-known heroes by picking up after the events ofThe Suicide SquadandPeacemaker. Amanda Waller, with the help of Rick Flag Sr., has assembled a brand-new team of unconventional agents unified by a single theme. This time around, these heroic misfits are all terrifying monsters, and both their unique abilities and less-than-stellar pasts will be key to accomplishing their covert operations. Indira Varma, Sean Gunn, Alan Tudyk, Zoë Chao, Frank Grillo, and Viola Davis co-star.
A Strong Start for the DCU
While this series may tread some familiar ground for those familiar with Gunn’s prior DC projects,Creature Commandosis stillan effective start to the newly-revamped DCU. Its animation is delightfully colorful and surprisingly fluid, all episodes were written by James Gunn with Dean Lorey (Harley Quinn, Kite Man: Hell Yeah!) acting as showrunner, and the reinvention of what used to be a pulpy side story in the greater DC universe shows the DCU’s commitment to revitalizing its legacy heroes. For fans ofThe Suicide Squad, this series will surely hit all the right beats.
Uzumaki: Spiral into Horror
The long-awaited adaptation of Junji Ito’s acclaimed horror series,Uzumaki, tells a particularly harrowing tale set in Kurouzu-cho, a modest Japanese town. Things seem normal at first, but as the townsfolk find themselves gradually obsessing over a series of mysterious spiral symbols, it’s up to high-school student Kirie and her boyfriend, Shuichi, to manage the madness surrounding them. The series takes place over the course of four episodes, rearranging the order of some stories while loosely stitching them together in a single narrative.
An Amazing First Episode
Uzumakiis a bit of a special case. Its first episode is nothing short of breathtaking, allowing the years of work put into the series to truly shine. While the subsequent episodesinfamously suffered from production issuesbehind the scenes, many of the iconic scenes from the original manga series are still found in abundance throughout. The first episode, at least, carries with it some of the most iconic moments from the series, bringing them to life with some of the most accurate and genuinely beautiful animation the medium has seen in years. If you want to see more after that first episode, just be sure to keep your expectations in check.
The Franchise
A show about making movies is a fairly novel concept, but what happens when superhero franchises get involved?The Franchisetells the story of Daniel, an assistant director involved with getting a minor film in a sprawling superhero franchise off the ground. Of course, nobody ever said it’d be easy. Production issues and day-to-day squabbles threaten to undo all of Daniel’s humble efforts. Himesh Patel stars as Daniel Kumar, with Aya Cash, Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, and Lolly Adefope joining the cast.
The Start of a Fantastic Franchise
The Franchisereally feels like the start of something great to come. Beyond the humor found in its meta approach, what you’ll find in this series is an excellent cast that excel at playing humble goofballs, giving their all to a concept with plenty to offer. Combined with the talents of Armando Iannucci, who produced the series along with Sam Mendes and series creator Jon Brown, this HBO comedy needs to be on your radar.
The Penguin
Returning to theBatmanwell once more, Max’s latest miniseries is one that you can’t afford to miss. Colin Farrell undergoes a fantastic transformation asThe Penguin,otherwise known as Oswald Cobb, as he begins his monumental rise in Gotham City’s criminal underworld. Oswald is given the opportunity of a lifetime when his former illicit employer, Carmine Falcone, is suddenly assassinated by a rival gang. One impulsive attack inadvertently leads to Oz facing off against the remaining Falcones as they attempt to take over Carmine’s drug ring. Cristin Milioti co-stars as Sofia Falcone, aka The Hangman, with Rhenzy Feliz, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, and Carmen Ejogo joining the cast as well.
A Miniseries Made With Matt Reeves
That’s right, the very same Matt Reeves responsible for the beloved 2022Batmanfilm lent a hand in the writing department, in addition to assisting with other creative aspects.Colin Farrell is stupendous as The Penguin, perfectly blending into Gotham with a compelling and character-accurate performance. Likewise, the talented Craig Zobel lent his talent to the series' first three episodes, having previously directedMare of Easttownin addition to creating the popular online web seriesHomestar Runner. Smiling Friends
Do you need to smile? If so, you need to give theSmiling Friendsa call. In a way, it’s a reflection of modern work culture, one that’s given life with its psychological elements and its more contemplative moments. Bad Sisters
Bad Sistersis backafter a lengthy two years, returning to the darkly comedic world inhabited by the Garvey sisters. Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of the spies who end up in Slough House due to their career-ending mistakes.

More Than Just the Goonies in Space
In a fun remix of the classicStar Warsformula,Skeleton Crewdoes more than just ape the classic coming-of-age films of the 1980s. Instead, it brings a refreshing, adventurous tone that’s been sorely missing fromStar Warsfor quite some time, diverting away from the overarching narratives found in other series while maintaining their impressive production design and genuine sense of wonder. Jon Watts is also a welcome addition, as his experience in creating the MCUSpider-Manfilms gives this series a delightfully fun tone.Jude Law also gets his time to shineas Jod, an accompanying force-user who handles some of the series’ more intense action scenes.

After a year of slim pickings from Disney+,Agatha All Alonghas finally hit the scene. A limited series tied to the events ofWandaVision,Agatha All Alongis all about the titular Agatha Harkness (played by a returning Kathryn Hahn). Three years after being imprisoned in Westview, New Jersey, Agatha escapes with the help of an ordinary teen, eventually forming a new coven of witches in the process. However, now without her magical powers, Agatha will have to contend with old foes as her new friend attempts to face the Witches' Road. Joe Locke co-stars alongside Debra Jo Rupp,Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Maria Dizzia, with some miscellaneous residents of Westview returning fromWandaVision.
Agatha All Acclaim

For one thing, Jac Schaeffer is back, lending her showrunner talents to the series once again following her work onWandaVisionandBlack Widow. An Impressive Critical Debut
Debuting to positive reviews overall, this tightly-written thriller managed to retain its spot on Hulu’s daily showcase of popular shows for a full week after its initial release. If that’s not a sign of its popularity, we’re not sure what is. Dan Fogelman really brings the best out of Sterling K. Brown after their previous collaboration onThis Is Us, and the series’ blend of both interpersonal drama and a wider mystery loaded with intrigue makes for a fulfilling watch. The use of flashbacks also lets James Marsden really shine in his presidential role, despite his murder being the catalyst for everything taking place.

Though the life of a teacher may not be all that glamorous, plenty of drama and comedy can be found as Evan deals with personal and professional troubles on a regular basis. Stephanie Koening and Enrico Colantoni co-star as Gwen Sanders and Grant Moretti respectively, with Sean Patton, Carmen Christopher, Jordan Firstman, and Aliyah’s Interlude making up the surrounding cast.

Now under the employ of Planet Express, an intergalactic delivery company, Fry has to contend with alien weirdos, maniacal robots, and his own personal troubles while adjusting to the future.

It was notably filmed on location in Colombia, with a majority of the cast being comprised of Colombian actors. With this in mind, many critics noted the series' faithfulness to the source material as a net positive, earning the series aplethora of positive reviewsacross the board. McMahon At His Worst

Terminator Zero
What ifTerminatorwas an anime? We’re being blunt, of course, asTerminator Zerobrings plenty more to the table in terms of creativity and action. Set in 1997,the series finds itself in the middle of Tokyo, as Malcom Lee (André Holland) sets off a chain of events that nobody could’ve ever predicted. In a bid to create an AI system meant to compete with Skynet, Lee finds himself being pursued by two mysterious forces from the future: one of them being a dangerous robotic assassin, and the other being a soldier who seemingly wants to help. Mattson Tomlin ofProject Powerserves as showrunner, with Sonoya Mizuno, Sumalee Montano, Gideon Adlon, Rosario Dawson, and Timothy Olyphant making up a portion of the English dub.
You’re Terminated
After originally debuting on August 29, or “Judgment Day” within the series,Terminator Zerosuccessfully injected some new life into a franchise that’s admittedly been running on fumes. However, as Tommy gets roped into the greater financial and political interests surrounding the region, his investigation only becomes more and more complicated. Sheridan wrote all the episodes of this series, sharing a co-creator credit with Christian Wallace, in addition to directing a handful of episodes as well. Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Paulina Chavez, Michelle Randolph, Demi Moore, and Jon Hamm co-star.
There Will Be Blood (And Oil)
Billy Bob Thornton always puts on a clinic whenever he’s in front of the camera, and his grizzled lead role inLandmanis no different. Drawing from Christian Wallace’s podcast seriesBoomtown,Landman’s numerous twists and turns are genuinely surprising at times, carrying with them the same kind of gruff storytelling you’d come to expect from Sheridan and co. Sylvester Stallone’s television series,Tulsa King, is back for yet another installment. Created by Taylor Sheridan and set in the titular Oklahoma capital, the series follows Dwight Manfredi, a powerful mafia captain who’s released from a New York prison and sent to the burgeoning south. Starting out with nothing, Manfredi is tasked with building up a new branch of the mafia’s empire in a place you would least expect. Stallone stars as Manfredi, with Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Jay Will, Max Casella, and Domenick Lombardozzi co-starring.

Taking inspiration from Batman’s earliest adventures,Batman: Caped Crusaderfollows a younger Bruce Wayne in a distinctly noir-themed Gotham, battling foes new and old alike in a psychological superhero story. Hamish Linklater, known for his role in Mike Flanagan’sMidnight Mass, plays The Dark Knight here, with Jamie Chung, Christina Ricci, Diedrich Bader, Tom Kenny, and Minnie Driver lending their voices to Batman’s famous rogues' gallery.
Bruce Timm’s Big Comeback
A more mature and nuanced depiction of The Dark Knight,Batman: Caped Crusaderis a perfect series for those who loved Bruce Timm’s first go-around with the character. Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic of the same name,The Boyspresents a universe in which “supes” are idolized as celebrities just as much as they’re revered for being crime fighters. However, underneath the surface of their public-facing facade is a grim, seedy underbelly. Thus, the eponymous vigilante group, The Boys, are tasked with taking down various supes who pose a risk to the public. Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Star, and Erin Moriarty star in this series, with Jessie T. Usher, Dominique McElligott, Chace Crawford, and Tomer Capone also attached to the cast.
A Gritty Take on Superheroes
Following his work onSupernatural, Eric Kripke not only adapted Ennis and Robertson’s comic, but significantly improved upon it. The shock value found in its source material is still found in spades, but refined storytelling, new plot elements, and adjusted pacing make for an adaptation that many consider to be superior to the original comics.
