A getaway to the Galápagos Islands withRon Howardand some bona fide A-list talent sounds like a phenomenal vacation for anyone.But for the cast of Howard’s new movieEden, it was far from luxury.The new thriller, written by Noah Pink, is based on the true story of a couple searching for a new life on a remote island in the 1920s. However, when three strangers arrive, their new life is quickly upended by the very worst of human nature.Edenstars Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl, and Sydney Sweeney. According to Brühl,the cast had to become incredibly close to help get each other through shooting.

“Nobody felt at home; we were in a shooting in a remote place,“Daniel Brühl toldCollider, appearing alongside Ron Howard and his cast mates at theToronto International Film Festival. Shooting in real locations, the actor said that the harsh conditions the couple felt during the 1920s were very real forEden’s cast.“It was hot and sticky and feverish, and it was exhausting, so we needed each other’s company,“he continued.

The actress also addressed the reshoots, which were overseen by franchise director Chad Stahelski.

“Every day was intense,“added Ron Howard. As well as immersing the cast within the situation the real-life couple experienced during the 20s, the harsh weather conditions also put major constraints on the production. The director continued:

“We had no cover sets. We were shooting outside. We had no studio. We would get occasionally stormed out because we hit a stretch of really bad weather, and the only way to make it up was to work really hard and really fast. These guys, and the rest of the ensemble, really lived up to that filmmaking challenge, as well.”

The Eden Cast Faced Their Fears During Production

The couple is faced with the very worst humanity has to offer in the three new arrivals. While the cast wasn’t faced with any manipulative, greedy survivors, they did have to confront their own fears during production.

And I was like, ‘Think about it again. Maybe you want someone else.'“For Sweeney, the fears came from the A-list notoriety of her fellow cast members. She explained:

“I felt like I just had impostor syndrome the whole time I was there working with Daniel and Jude [Law] and Ana and Vanessa [Kirby] and Ron.”

While both actresses faced their psychological fears, forDaniel Brühlit was purely physical.“I did take the risk to confront my snake phobia because there were some scary moments,“he explained. The actor recalled several takes being interrupted by unwelcome serpents (who definitely didn’t have SAG cards). He continued:

“In the middle of a take, a very friendly gentleman would show up out of nowhere and tell you to stop, with some long scissors, and to step away. I mean, I have to say, in Australia, there are all these poisonous creatures and we were dealing with snakes every now and then.”
