True Bloodstar Anna Paquin is not involved in HBO’s upcoming reboot of the hit vampire series, but in any case, she’s hoping for the new show to be a success. Based onThe Southern Vampire Mysteriesnovels by Charlaine Harris, the originalTrue Bloodaired for seven seasons on HBO between 2008 and 2014. Paquin starred as the central character, Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).
Last month, it was reported that aTrue Bloodreboot was in the works atHBO. At the time, Paquin tweeted in response to the news that it was the first she was hearing about it. Harris also tweeted that she knew nothing about the reported reboot. Speaking further about the series revival in a new interview with Collider, Paquin had this to say when asked if she was surprised about the news.
“I don’t know. No. Yes… Charlaine Harris didn’t even know it was happening. Everybody’s phones were blowing up. Cast and crew, by the way, were like, ‘Oh my God, your show is getting picked back up!’ and we were all like, ‘Huh? What?'”
Anna Paquingoes on to add:
“We do live in an era of entertainment where the reboot and the sequel have become a currency. So, is it time? I don’t know. That’s really not my department. It was some of the best years of my life, but I don’t think themcontinuing to tell those storiesor continuing in that world really has anything to do with the thing that we created. That’s its own special little entity that was ours and came with a whole family of cast and crew who are still in touch.”
It’s still unclear if the reboot will reimagine the original HBO series with new actors playing the same characters, or if we’ll be following a new cast elsewhere in the same universe. As far as potentially reprising the role ofSookiein the new show, Paquin also suggested that wasn’t very likely, though she is still offering her support to whoever’s involved with the reboot.
“So, I wish them well. I don’t know if they need us for anything. Aren’t we all too old now? But it’s a fun world. It’s a supernatural world with endless possibilities. Of course, there’s room to do more and to tell more stories within that universe. We don’t own it.”
As for what’s next for Paquin, she recently picked up a lead role opposite Zachary Levi in the upcoming movieAmerican Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story. A biopic, the movie follows NFL Hall of Famer Kurt Warner with Paquin playing his wife, Brenda. Filmmaking brothers Jon and Andrew Erwin will direct using a script written by David Aaron Cohen, Jon Gunn, and Jon Erwin. A release date hasn’t yet been revealed.
True Bloodcreator and original showrunner Alan Ball is set to executive produce the reboot series. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Jami O’Brien will also executive produce in addition to writing the script. There’s no word yet on when production will begin. This news comes to us fromCollider.
