In preparation for the December 2025 release of the threequelAvatar: Fire and Ash,Empiremagazine has released new details about the film’s characters and world in their monthly “Path to Pandora” series featured in every new issue. This month,Empirehas provided the first look at a new character named Peylak, who will be played byDavid Thewlis, best known for his role as Remus Lupin in theHarry Potterfilm series. Interestingly, this new Na’vi character is not part of theMangkwan ‘Ash’ Clan, but he is the Chief of the Tlalim Clan, also known as the Wind Traders.
Deborah L. Scott, a costume designer on the film, gave plenty of details about what went into Peylak’s design, as the character (who can be seen below) looks to be the most freshly dressed in theAvatarseries so far. Peylak is shown in the new image as having a colorful robe and unique hair design, with intricate levels of detail in the cloth that makes him stand out from other Na’vi. Scott would describe Peylak, and all of the Wind Traders to a certain extent, as the most positive-minded of the clans seen thus far, saying:

“They’re upbeat, happy, colorful, and when they come into our movie, everyone’s excited to see them. It’s like the circus is in town. Originally the cloak was a little more rugged, a little more rustic. But as all the clans developed, Jim [Cameron] said, ‘I just don’t think it’s grand enough.’ So I went back and reinvented it.”
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Continues to Expand On the World of Pandora
The Tlalim Clan and its jellyfish-like means of transportation in the upcoming film is another integral piece of the story that will be introduced inFire and Ash, as this nextAvatarmovie looks to be the most expansive one yet. James Cameron is justifying the lengthy runtime of these films with so much world building and new Na’vi culture, it’s becoming increasingly harder to argue against theamount of sequelsthe director has planned for theAvatarfilms.

The love story didn’t go down well with everyone, but it is resonating with Hulu viewers again.
As for Thewlis, the actor briefly teased what his character is like, saying that Peylak is one of the more magnificent Na’vi to behold, adding,“The way he carries himself, he’s got great posture, He’s absolutely stunning in the movie.”The Wind Traders could very well ally themselves with Jake (Sam Worthington) and the Metkayina Clan. The story details are still being kept under wraps, but it seems for now that more likely than not, Mangkwan ‘Ash’ Clan will be the primary antagonist of the series.

James Cameron has teased that the upcoming film will explore themes and character arcs that he claimsother blockbusters don’t usually address, and it seems he’ll be doing it in style if Peylak’s design is any indication. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the Wind Traders look in terms of costume design, as Scott and the rest of the team behind theAvatarfilm series have carefully crafted each clan to be easily distinguishable from each other.
