However, to sweeten the pot, Barbie’s delightful alter egos will be played by Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, and Nicola Coughlan, to name a few. Judging by the film’s trailer and movie posters, every facet of Barbie will be portrayed, seeing as Barbie can do anything and everything.

On the other hand, Ken is simply Ken, but the multiple versions ofBarbie’s himbo counterpartwill be represented as well, with actors such as Simu Liu and John Cena bringing him to life. Gerwig Knowns How to Write a Script

Gerwig’s previous film endeavors as a solo director managed to nab her Oscar nominations for her writing. If the buzz surrounding her newest venture is any indication,Barbieis likely to follow suit. Many actors tied to the film have raved about the movie’s script since its inception and have even declared the Barbie screenplay thebest script ever written. Needless to say, the script is likely to be a phenomenal one. What seems like a bold statement on its surface is, in fact, a representation of Gerwig’s expanding talent as a screenwriter and director.

UnlikeLady BirdandLittle Women, Gerwig co-wrote theBarbiescreenplay with longtime partner Noah Baumbach, a fellow director and screenwriter on his own. They’ve written together previously onFrances HaandMistress America, both of which Baumbach directed and Gerwig starred in. While both of those films garnered critical success, they didn’t galvanize the masses likeBarbieappears to be doing.

With Gerwig and Baumbach’s combined writing talents, directorial savvy, and the notable hype surroundingBarbieoverall, audiences will surely experience a movie like no other.

Gerwig’s Barbie Is More Than a Toy

Throughout the past decades, there have been numerous movies and television shows about the children’s toy made specifically for kids. Barbie has been brought to the small screen viafeature-length cartoonsshowcasing nearly every version of the Barbie character there could possibly be. The difference now is Gerwig’s script is the first live-action film made for a much wider audience. While fans of Barbie will likely flock to the film no matter what, the movie is meant to appeal to everyone and anyone.

The newest incarnation of the beloved doll is clearly meant to be more than a simple toy. Therein lies the difference between a children’s movie and a film worth a theatrical release. Barbie is everything. She can do anything, and just like the women and children who idolize her, she is multifaceted.

Gerwig’s version of Barbie appears to make strides in capturing that particular spirit which makes Barbie appealing to so many people around the world. By making Barbie more than a toy, Gerwig’s film will likely be her best one yet because she’ll be creating something completely different from what she’s ever done.
