Bella Ramseyhas delivered a blunt message to those who have expressed homophobic views aboutThe Last of Us, telling them that they need to get used to it. The series kicked off with almost perfect reviews, but when the third episode centered on an original storyline around the relationship of Bill and Frank, one that was not part of the video game, a wave of negativity hit against the inclusion of the episode. In a recent interview withGQ, Ramsey addressed her reaction to the backlash, and how fans can either just accept what the show delivers or not. She said:

“I’m not particularly anxious about it. I know people will think what they want to think. But they’re gonna have to get used to it. If you don’t want to watch the show because it has gay storylines, because it has a trans character, that’s on you, and you’re missing out. It isn’t gonna make me afraid. I think that comes from a place of defiance.”

Ramsey herself identifies as non-binary, but doesn’t feel like the pronouns people use hold any weight so still uses she/her. When it comes to her characters, the actress explained how playing more feminine characters in some of her other roles makes her feel more empowered, because she is not a “young lady” or a “young woman.” As Ellie inThe Last of Us, Ramsey has some powerful storylines coming up across this season, and the second season which is coming in the near future. For her part, she hopes that the majority of people will be happy to stick around to see how it all turns out.

The Last of Us Has Seen Its Overall Audience Rating Dip Slightly

The Last of Ushas continued to receive high praise in the main, but its vastly superior audience score has taken a hit in the last couple of weeks thanks to an influx of 1-star ratings that take aim atepisode 3’s love story between Bill and Frank. While there have been other disgruntled die-hard fans on the video game that are unhappy with anything that moves slightly away from being a direct copy of the source material, the overall love for the show has continued to show through and the series is still guaranteed a place as one of the greatest TV dramas of all time.

Although there have been complaints about the series not being a continuous onslaught of zombie violence, the nature of the show doesn’t need an endless stream of gory attacks as when they do come, their impact is much greater for it. As the show progresses, there are more people seem to want to take aim at it for picky reasons that don’t really impact the overall feel of series, or the praise from the vast majority of viewers, whose number continues to grow.
