Warning: The Following Contains Spoilers forSeveranceSeason 2, Episode 10, “Cold Harbor”
Things certainly took a turn for the worse in theSeveranceSeason 2 finale today onApple TV+, but even executive producer and directorBen Stillerhad no idea how bloody it would get. Premiering back in 2022, the hit sci-fi thriller captivated audiences with its tale of employees at Lumon Industries, and since then, the show has gone on to become Apple’s most-watched series ever. Hot on the heels of the finale, Apple recently announcedthat it has been renewed for Season 3.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Stiller touched on theSeveranceSeason 2 finale, which featured the demise of Mr. Drummond (Darri Ólafsson) at the hands of Mark S. (Adam Scott) that concluded with the Lumon Industries enforcer sprawled out on gleaming white tile with bright red blood pooling all around him that looked to be a shot taken straight out of a Dario Argento movie. “There’s something about the visuals of those white hallways,” Stiller said. “When you introduce blood into them, it’s that much more stark and shocking.” When asked if he saw that moment coming, Stiller admitted that he had an idea things might get rough, be even he didn’t know that it would go that far:
“No. It’s just always been a question of security at Lumon. How do they keep control over people? I guess somewhere in my head I thought, ‘well, at some point…’ I never wanted it to be a show where everybody’s walking around with guns or anything like that. It’s not that kind of show. But there has to be some underbelly to this whole thing. So maybe down the line I thought we’d get here, but honestly, I don’t think I knew it would go as far as we did.”

If the ‘Severance’ Season 1 Finale Made You Angry, Then You’ll Really Hate the Season 2 Finale
The first season finale of ‘Severance’ left fans angered, and Season 2 will conjure up similar feelings.
Thus far,Severancehas featured very little violence in the series, save for a baseball bat or two, so the Season 2 finale was a noticeable departure from the norm. “I felt like this could be a moment that was hopefully a little shocking to the audience,” Stiller added. “It feels like everything is implied at Lumon, and then finally when it gets pushed to the limit, underneath there is a very ugly reality of what they’re doing there.”

How Many Seasons of ‘Severance’ Will There Be?
With the news today that Apple has officially renewedSeverancefor a third season, Stiller recently reassured fans thatit won’t take three years for it to debutlike Season 2 did. With that being said, he remains mum about just how many seasons in total there will be of the psychological sci-fi-thriller. When asked if creator Dan Erickson had a specific number in mind, Stiller replied:
“Yeah, he does. The hope is that we’ll be able to let people know what the plan is at some point in the future. Our desire is to get the show on a more regular cadence. It’s been challenging, with COVID and then the strikes, but that’s part of what I want to be able to do in the future, is let people know what we’re doing and what to expect."

As we await more news on what the plans are forSeveranceSeason 3, and when we might expect it to debut, you can currently catch the first two seasons streaming now on Apple TV+.
