Sometimes, life imitates art. In the hit AMC seriesBreaking Bad, the role of Marie Schrader was played byBetsy Brandt. The character later turned up for a special appearance in the spinoff seriesBetter Call Saul. The wife of Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) and sister to Skyler White (Anna Gunn), Marie was also known for her obsession with the color purple as well as her struggles with kleptomania.

Brandt spoke about her run onBreaking Badin a new interview forThe Rich Eisen Show. She reflected on playing the kleptomaniac Marie and revealed how she would have made the character proud by actually taking something from the set herself. Brandt goes on to say how she yoinked the actual figurine that was used as a prop for the one stolen by Marie in the show. As Brandt tells Rich Eisen, she appreciated how it was “just so weird and random” of a prop for her to keep.

“The spoons were fun. For me, that was fun. And then I did take from the set the little figurine that [Marie] took. So, Sony’s probably gonna come after me now… [I took it] because it was just so weird and random. It’s not a Hummel, it’s like a Hummel knockoff.”

Everyone Was Up to Something in Breaking Bad

Brandt also spoke about how Marie’s kleptomania is basically just small potatoes when it comes to some of the things that most of the other characters were doing onBreaking Bad. She says how she still loves the Marie character and was thrilled to “do her justice” with theBetter Call Saulappearance. Even if Marie has a tendency to swipe things that don’t belong to her, she still served as a bit of a moral compass on the show, as Brandt sees it.

“She’s not the easiest character, I know that, but there’s so much to love about her. I still love her. And at the end, she was one of the most honest people on the show, who told the truth and was… her compass was the one you follow out of half the characters on that show… more than half.”

TheBreaking Badstory came to its end with the final season ofBetter Call Saul, which included the appearance from Brandt. There are no additional spinoffs planned at this time to further extend the story of that world, so as of now,Breaking Badis over. Should the franchise ever get revived, however, there always remains the possibility that fans could one day again see Marie Schrader.
