Academy Award winner Geena Davis would love to return forBeetlejuice 2. The actress revealed toPEOPLEthat he “would of course like to revisit” the delights and terrors of the Netherworld all over again after all these years, with Davis seemingly on board for legacy sequels to every movie she has ever starred in. Which would keep her busy for quite some time.
“I want to play every character I’ve ever played again.”

While there is no doubt those who would love to see legacy sequels to the likes ofThe Long Kiss GoodnightandEarth Girls Are Easy,Beetlejuice 2is something that fans have been crying out for quite some time. Released long, long ago in the before time of 1988, and directed byTim Burton, the firstBeetlejuiceintroduces audiences toBatmanstar Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse, pronounced Beetlejuice, a ghoul and freelancing bio-exorcist.
Our story begins when newly deceased couple, Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin as Barbara and Adam Maitland respectively, contact Beetlejuice and bring him up from the Netherworld in order to scare away the new inhabitants of their old house — a house they are currently haunting. Of course, with Geena Davis’ character being a ghost, the actress has foreseen an issue with her potential return.
“I have a feeling that ghosts don’t age. How would they explain that they’re older?”
While this does present a potential problem (though perhaps some simple de-aging effects could be put to use), would anyone really care if they’ve aged? Surely fans would simply be too excited to see Beetlejuice brought to life to even notice.Beetlejuicewas a critical and commercial success upon release and has since become a favorite outing in Burton’s gothic repertoire.
A sequel toBeetlejuicehas been on the cards for some time, with Burton beginning work on a follow-up as far back as 1990 withBeetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. The project has been the subject of multiple stop-starts ever since, withBeetlejuice 2currently in the hands of Hollywood icon Brad Pitt and his production company Plan B Entertainment.
Repots have recently stated that Pitt is as eager to seeBeetlejuice 2as everyone else is, with the sequel announced as being in production back in February. While not much has been revealed since, it has been claimed that bothMichael Keatonand Winona Ryder will reprise their roles as Betelgeuse and Lydia Deetz, with principal photography said to be scheduled to begin this year.
Long-time Tim Burton collaborator Johnny Depp is also rumored to have a role inBeetlejuice 2, though details of what that role would be are being kept a secret at this time.
For now, Tim Burton is plenty busy bringing his version ofThe Addams Familyto life on Netflix with the sequel series,Wednesday. Starring Jenna Ortega as the titular character, with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Fred Armisen, and Gwendoline Christie,Wednesdayfollows the beloved member of The Addams Family, Wednesday Addams, exploring her years as a high school student at Nevermore Academy.
