Back in 2013, Marvel Studios re-acquired the rights to three of its beloved superheroes,Blade,Ghost RiderandThe Punisher. The Punisherwas integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe earlier this year withJon Bernthalplaying Frank Castle inDaredevilSeason 2, while the newGhost Rider, Robbie Reyes (Gabriel Luna) made his MCU debut onAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Season 4. Marvel has still not made any formal announcements for aBladeproject, but it seems that may be in the works, according toKate Beckinsale.
Kate Beckinsaleisn’t exactly someone you’d think of to break Marvel news, since she hasn’t starred in any of theMCU moviesthus far. The actress was part of a panel at New York Comic Con today for her new movieUnderworld: Blood Wars, where she was asked if anyone had considered a crossover between theUnderworldfranchise and the beloved vampire hunterBlade. As it turns out, the actress revealed during herUnderworld Blood WarsNew York Comic Con panel (viaComicBook.com), that they did in fact consider a crossover. Here’s whatKate Beckinsalehad to say, dropping some tantalizingBladedetails.
“No. We had that idea. No. They’re busy. They’re doing something withBlade.”
Kate Beckinsalewouldn’t elaborate any further about what Marvel is working on, but there have been a few different rumors swirling as of late. Back in May, a rumor surfaced that aBlade TV serieswas in development at Netflix, along withMoon KnightandGhost Rider. We learned just a few months later thatGhost Riderwas heading to ABC’sAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but there have never been any confirmed details about aBladeorMoon KnightTV series.
We also reported in May that originalBladestarWesley Snipeshas expressed his interest in returning as the Daywalker. The actor revealed that there is always a possibility that he could return, although he added that the “Ball’s in Marvel’s court.” Even if Marvel is secretly developing aBladeproject, we don’t know if it’s a movie or a TV series, or if the studio would even be inclined to bringWesley Snipesback asBlade. The actor starred in three big-screen adventures, 1998’sBlade, 2002’sBlade IIand 2004’sBlade: Trinity. There was also a 2006 live-action TV show based on the character that aired on SPIKE.
Wesley Snipesalso revealed last year that he had met with Marvel Studios aboutBlade 4, but another report surfaced a few months later that the studio was considering using afemale vampire hunter. Still, until Marvel makes any sort of official announcement, we just have hearsay and unconfirmed rumors. Hopefully we’ll here something official about a newBlademovie or TV show soon.
