Earlier today, we showed younew photosfromMarvel’s highly-anticipatedCaptain America: Civil War, which comes just days after the first trailer debuted.Entertainment Weeklyhas revealed even more photos from this superhero adventure, along with new story details from directorsAnthony RussoandJoe Russo. The publication was on hand during what the filmmakers are calling the “Splash Page” fight, referencing a comic book term depicting a full-spread illustration that comes either at the beginning or the end of a comic. The fight in question has been teased in the first trailer, but we have some new details about the battle below.
The “Splash Page” fight takes place at an airport, where Team Cap and Team Iron Man are seen engaging in battle. The scene in question featuresBlack Widowgiving an “all-out thrashing” toAnt-Man, while Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) andScarlet Witchfire at unknown enemies in the sky, which could beWar Machine(Don Cheadle) andVision(Paul Bettany). The scene will end with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) knocking Captain America (Chris Evans) to his knees. DirectorJoe Russocompared this epic battle to a fight one would see at any family wedding.
“The story is about family. And what happens if they don’t agree. We’ve been comparing it to a fight at a wedding. What happens when your cousin and your brother go at it, and whose side are you on, and where does it go from there?”
This report also confirms a rumor that Crossbones (Frank Grillo) is responsible for the destruction, that, when paired with the Sokovia incident inAvengers: Age of Ultron, has lead the world leaders to come up with a system that will regulate those with super powers. T’challa (Chadwick Boseman) is all for this initiative, but it’s also revealed that his secret identity asBlack Pantherisn’t yet known to the general public. Here’s whatChris Evanshad to say about his scenes with T’challa, and how this movie will have fans wondering which side they should choose.
“I love our scenes together because I do think they feel a sense of responsibility. I think they’re both very selfless people. They want the right thing, no one’s irrational, no one has an inflated ego. They’re family-first people. I think outside of the suits we’d be friends, Steve and T’Challa. In most of the movies, there’s no question who we should be siding with. We all agree Nazis are bad, aliens from space are bad. But this movie’s the first time where you really have two points of view. There’s really no wrong answer here and it’s just a matter of who we are as men: Tony Stark and myself. Which side of the aisle do we come down on? So it’s hard for [Cap]. It becomes a question of morality and I don’t think he’s ever been so uncertain with what right and wrong is.”
