Chris Prattremains one of the most likable actors in Hollywood, thanks to a combination of his humble ‘dad with jokes’ persona and the specific performances he chooses. He’s usually either a relatable, funny everyman (Parks and Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy), a tough American patriot (Zero Dark Thirty, The Terminal List), or the voice of an iconic cultural touchstone (The LEGO Movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and nowThe Garfield Movie). Pratt told MovieWeb that, despite playing such big (and often kid-friendly) characters, it hasn’t impressed his three children yet. Granted, his daughters are one and three years old, but his older son has a hilarious opinion.
“My daughters have never seen anything I’ve ever been in, and they don’t even know I’m an actor,” Pratt explained, adding with a smile:

“And my son is at this age, as a tween, that if he did feel that way, he certainly wouldn’t let me know.So he tends to, like, more make fun of me, which I think is great because it’s sort of our love language to tease each other. But he’s always constantly reminding me of how, you know,Star Lord is the weakest Avengers characterand the worst character, or the second-worst character, in the MCU. I’m like, ‘Okay, thanks.'”
“So hopefully they love me because I’m dad,” added Pratt. “But if they find out one day down the road that I voiced these characters, I don’t know it might be.I’ll be curious to see how they react. It might be a minute before they realize that it’s special because, as it is now, they don’t even know what I do, which is cool.”

Chris Pratt Divulges Harder Character to Pull Off (Garfield vs. Mario), Why Cat Hates Mondays
Pratt reveals if it was harder to pull off the cat’s laziness or Mario’s Italian accent; actor sheds light on why Garfield loathes Mondays.
The Garfield Movie Continues Chris Pratt’s Impressive Voiceover Career
While most people recognizePratt as the schlubby and lovable Andy Dwyer inParks and Recreationor the handsome but very human Star Lord inGuardians of the Galaxy, his voice is almost as recognizable. When news emerged that Pratt was voicing Mario inThe Super Mario Bros. Movie, there was a lot of debate over the fact that he basically just sounded like himself. The alternative, however, could’ve been an embarrassing caricature of Italian culture.
Most people completely forgot their trepidation over Pratt’s voice when they sawThe Super Mario Bros. Movie, which became a box office behemoth and the second highest-grossing movie of 2023, just behindBarbie.

The Garfield Movie
Based on Jim Davis’s comic series, Garfield is a new imagining of the lasagna-loving cat and his friends, opting for a fully computer-animated approach. Chris Pratt voices the titular cat, with the film aiming to explore his early days and new misadventures for him, his friends, and his family.
A similar hesitation may have developed when people first heard that Pratt was voicing Garfield, a character who is most famously voiced in the modern era by Bill Murray, someone who can’t exactly be replaced. Others will likely never forget the iconic voice of Lorenzo Music, who played the Monday-hating, lasagna-loving cat for 20 years in various TV specials and the great series, Garfield and Friends. ButGarfieldcreator Jim Davis himself has approved and even praised Pratt’s voice for the character, andThe Garfield Moviedirector Mark Dindal has said that the only person’s voice he hears as Garfield is Pratt’s, which all bodes very well for this new voiceover performance from the actor.

The Garfield Moviereleases in theaters July 04, 2025, from Sony Pictures.
