After setting the box office on fire with a massive $1.1 billion worldwide, making it the biggest global blockbuster of the year so far,Captain America: Civil Warcomes home on Digital HD September 2, before itsBlu-ray and DVDdebut on September 13. To get fans ready for this home video release, Marvel has unveiled a new deleted scene, plus two previews featuringSebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier andPaul Bettany’s Vision. If you still haven’t seen this masive superhero adventure yet there will be SPOILERS below, so read on at your own risk.

Marvel debuted the two previews through Twitter and Facebook, while thedeleted scenecomes courtesy ofEntertainment Weekly. This brief scene is part of the massive airport fight scene, where Team Cap and Team Iron Man both collided, featuring War Machine (Don Cheadle) shooting at Cap (Chris Evans) from above, causing Cap to take a tumble and lose his iconic shield. Thankfully, Bucky, a.k.a. The Winter Soldier comes in and throws this vibranium shield at War Machine, knocking him back, beforeThe Falcon(Anthony Mackie) swoops in and brings the shield back to Cap.

The scene ends with Bucky telling Cap, “I’ve gotta get me one of those.” It’s possible that this scene may be somewhat of a callback toCaptain America: The Winter Soldier. The first time Cap encounters this mysterious character, who turns out to be his brainwashed friendBucky Barnes, Cap throws his shield as he tries to escape on the rooftop, but Winter Soldier catches it with his metal arm. In this scene, Bucky throws the shield to protect Cap, which seems to have a deeper meaning. EW did manage to catch up with directorsAnthony RussoandJoe Russo, who revealed why this scene was cut from the massive airport sequence. Here’s whatJoe Russohad to say.

“The airport sequence was obviously complicated. We wanted to track everybody’s arc and we felt like it was a hair too long, and that beat was coming at a spot when the energy was dropping. We actually made that up on set. It was not scripted.”

WritersChristopher MarkusandStephen McFeelywrote this scene the morning of their shoot, in order to solve a problem they later realized was non-existent. The writers admitted they wanted a moment to get both characters back together, but realized it wasn’t necessary. Here’s whatJoe Russohad to say below, admitting that while it wasn’t necessary for the story, it turned out great for the DVD.

“We were looking for a transitional moment to get Cap and Bucky back together, but in editorial we ultimately realized we didn’t need that transition. It’s actually one of my favorite beats in that whole sequence, but it’s just a function of storytelling and editing, and wasn’t something we needed to tell the story, but it’s a great bit for the DVD.”

Anthony Russoalso added that it was tough coming up with deleted scenes because they used “almost everything they had” on both this movie andCaptain America: The Winter Soldier. He went on to explain what their criteria was for cutting scenes out that will be included in the DVD, while admitting that this particular scene was “tough” to cut. Here’s what he had to say below.

“We’ve been very fortunate on Winter Soldier andCivil Warthat we didn’t cut that much from the film. We didn’t have that much to pick from for DVD bonuses. We used almost everything we had. Sometimes you do get a little experimental when you’re shooting, and if something just doesn’t work, that’s something we wouldn’t put on the DVD. There’s certainly a category of things that may be beats you really like, but for whatever reason the rhythm of the film isn’t asking for it at that particular moment,” Anthony says. “You want to cut it out just because the movie’s stronger, more propulsive and cleaner and tighter without it.”

Along with this deleted scene, we also have two previews from the bonus features, which shed new light on The Winter Soldier andPaul Bettany’s Vision. We’ll be sure to keep you posted with more footage from the Blu-ray and DVD as we get closer to the home video release date, so stay tuned. Until then, take a look at these new previews below.
