Cobra Kaimay be ending with Season 6, but the future of the franchise just received a positive update from co-creatorJon Hurwitz. The showrunner took part in aQ&A session on X/Twitterahead of the release of the final episodes of the series, and among the many questions he responded to, one particular comment caught the attention of many fans.

The popular Netflix series, which aired its original episodes on YouTube Red, is a sequel series to the originalKarate Kidmovies, and although the new series will conclude this story, the franchise is already set to continue with the new legacy sequel,Karate Kid: Legends. The new movie will see Raph Macchio once again reprising his role as Daniel LaRusso, this time teaming up with Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han to train another young “Karate Kid,” Ben Wang’s Li Fong.

Thatmovie is set to be released in theaters in May 2025, but it may not be the onlyKarate Kidproject on the cards. After the incredible success ofCobra Kai, it seems that there could be more spinoffs to come, especially if Hurwitz gets his way. When asked if any ofCobra Kai’s characters will get their own spinoff show, the showrunner said:

“I hope so. Actively working on it.”

For Netflix,Cobra Kaiis a relatively cheap production – at least when stacked up alongside the likes ofStranger ThingsandWednesday– and the viewership for the final season has been strong. Reviews have continued to heap praise on the show, and with the new movie also generating a lot of hype, it would be foolish to believe that they are just going to let the TV side of the franchise fade into obscurity.

‘Cobra Kai’s Ending Will “Embrace” the “80s Movies

Cobra Kaihas enjoyed a hugely successful run since transitioning to Netflix, but many fans have been wondering exactly what could happen in the final episodes to ensure the series goes out on a high. Back in November,Macchio appeared at a panel in support of the series, and shared:

“You need to hit the bottom to come back up, and that’s kind of where we are. I’m very excited. It is set up to embrace that big ’80s movie ending that I have a feeling we will find and go forward. It feels right to land the plane,Cobra Kaiproper… [and that] this chapter is ending.”

Cobra Kai has integrated beloved cast members from Karate Kid into its compelling new narrative and allowed them to evolve and grow with time.

According to Macchio’s on-screen opponent, William “Johnny” Zabka, the finale will be just as epic as everyone is hoping. During the same event, Zabka said:

“[The producers] stick the landing in a way that’s unexpected, uplifting, and honest…It’s a great ending for everybody and we’re so thankful we had six seasons to get to tell the whole story.”

It is rare for any series to manage a six-season run on Netflix.Cobra Kaihas surprised many over the years by becoming a worthy successor to the film series, delivering exactly the right level of nostalgic returns and new characters. Whatever the future holds for the characters, it has been a great ride so far.
