The ongoing social media campaign “#sixseasonsandamovie” isofficially happening with the long awaitedCommunitymovie debut moving into production sometime soon, but the show’s creator,Dan Harmon, is askingfans to stop misplacing blame about the production’s delays onto one of its stars. The cult sitcom went off the air in 2015, following 6 seasons and several jumps between networks. Set in Greendale Community College, the series follows a study group who constantly involve themselves in the weird goings-on of the school.
Speaking toVariety, Dan Harmon addressed the project’s ‘delays’ and urged fans to stop blamingDonald Glover(who plays Troy Barnes in the show). Harmon first said that the term ‘delays’ is inaccurate, as the movie was never given an official production date. Dan Harmon is currently finalizing the film’s script. He explained:

“I’m going to use the time that we have to do a final pass on this thing that hopefully makes everybody real excited and happy. In the meantime, can you call them delays when I mean, did we have a shoot day? The engine is still moving.”
This Stripes-inspired comedy is about a group of misfits attending the Greendale Community College. The focus group of the Community is led by a lawyer with a revoked degree who is trying to scam his way through the low-budget college and regain his old life.

Harmon then addressed fans who believe Donald Glover is the reason the project hasn’t started shooting yet. As well as being an Emmy-winning actor, most recently starringin Prime Video’sMr & Mrs Smith, Glover is also a Grammy-winning rapper, going by Childish Gambino. As a result, Glover’s schedule is tightly packed, and fans believe he hasn’t got the time to shoot the movie. Harmon also joked that he’s worried those fans will scare Glover away from returning for the long-awaited movie. Harmon said:
“I saw where Donald Glover said he’s hearing from fans that they think he’s the reason the movie’s not happening sooner. I immediately wanted to get on my Instagram and say, ‘Stop yelling at Donald! Do you want to scare this guy off?’ He wants to do the movie, stop haranguing him! He’s not the reason, no single human being could be the reason for delays.”

Why Has The Community Movie Taken So Long?
It’s been nearly a decade sinceCommunityfinished airing, and it will likely go past that milestonewhen the eagerly-anticipated film hits Peacock. Many fans are still wondering why a movie sequel to a beloved sitcom has taken so long, but Harmon has already answered this.
10 Best Background Gags in Community You Probably Missed
Community featured a slew of interesting hidden gags throughout the seasons. Here are a handful you may have missed.
Speaking toTHRin October 2023, Harmon said the reason for the film’s long development time came down to casting. The creator said that he needed to confirm which actors definitely would and wouldn’t be able to return for the film before he could begin working on the script. Harmon said:

“It became a very lengthy process because we wanted to include as much of the cast that wanted to be included and therefore needed to know who was interested before we knew what the movie was going to be. Because if we’re just making a movie with Jim Rash and Joel McHale, there’s a movie there, but we need to figure that out sooner rather than later.”
Alongside Donald Glover,Communitystarred Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, Chevy Chase, and Ken Jeong. With the exception of Chevy Chase, theentire core castwill be returning for theCommunitymovie.

TheCommunitymovie has no official release window yet, but will stream on Peacock. All 6 seasons of the show can be streamed on Peacock.
