Creed 2will officially hit Chinese theaters on January 4th, 2019. This marks the first time that a movie from theRockyfranchise has gotten a theatrical release in China. The country is the second-biggest box office market in the world and has been responsible for a big chunk of the huge success of bothVenomandAquamanrecently.Creed 2should be able to pull in quite a bit of extra cash upon its release early next year.

AlongsideRocky, Sylvester Stallone’sRambofranchise has not had a theatrical release in China either, but 2010’sThe Expendablesdid fairly well, which means that Stallone is probably pretty well-known. Plus, it probably means thatRambo 5will get a theatrical release date in China too. That has yet to be confirmed, butCreed 2should raise Stallone’s profile in China, paving the way for more of his projects to get a crack at the country.

To date,Creed 2has pulled in $133.6 million globally. The sequel had a better opening than its predecessor and it has constantly been in the top ten for over a month now.Sylvester Stallonehas announced that the movie will mark the last time that he will appear on the big screen as Rocky Balboa. However, there are more than a few people who believe that he will eventually come back, one of which being co-star Dolph Lundgren. Stallone has teased retirement more than once, so he could make a comeback, especially if the sequel ends up doing really well in China. There’s already a demand for a third movie, so it will be interesting to see what the actor decides to do.

Speaking of a possible follow up toCreed 2, Sylvester Stallone says that he’d be open to WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder taking on the role ofClubber Lang’s son. Wilder has expressed interest in the role and says that acting is going to be his career pursuit when he is finished boxing. Clubber Lane was originally played by the iconic Mr. T inRocky III, and Wilder is more than ready to take on the role after his rematch with Tyson Fury.Creed 3has not been officially announced and is not in active development at the moment.

TheChinese box officehas been helping out a lot of North American movies lately. Sony’sVenomextended its theatrical run because the movie was doing so well there. However, not all franchises are destined for greatness in China.Star Warsdoes not do very well there andThe Last Jediwas quickly pulled from theaters after a dismal opening. Hopefully,Creed 2will end up doing better in China than theStar Wasfranchise, which isn’t too hard to do. ThisCreed 2news was first reported byThe Hollywood Reporter.
