According to Variety, during an interview onThe Rich Eisen Show,Bruckheimer talked abouthis decision to develop a sequel to the highly praised ’90s production. “We have a really good director and writer talking to the navy right now about what’s going on under the water,” he said, ensuring no details or names about those involved were mentioned. Of course, the question everyone wants to know the answer to is, will Washington revise his role or at least make an appearance in the sequel? The respected producer gave his honest opinion, saying:
“If we give him a good script, I think he’d do it.”

With the deaths ofGene Hackman(earlier this year, in February), the original directorTony Scott, and one of the film’s writers, Robert Towne, there will be obvious changes since the film was released 30 years ago. Bruckheimer added that he does not know if he’ll ever replicate the film’s impeccable writing.
“We had Tony Scott, a phenomenal director. We had Quentin Tarantino and Robert Towne, two of the greatest writers and directors, writing on that movie. … I don’t know if I’ll ever replicate that kind of writing for a film.”
