Not only did fans get to see all the latest from Marvel and Star Wars, there was an unexpected, but very welcome, treat plopped right into the middle of Disney’s big live-action movie panel presentation. Yes, it was a surprise visit fromJohnny Depp, who showed up on stage completely decked out as Captain Jack Sparrow. Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luckCaptain Jack Sparrowfinds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…Including him. Production on thisaction-adventurestarted in Australia back in February, with principal photography wrapping just last month.
Disney also revealed the logo forPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Talesalong with some very exciting casting news. It was confirmed that the upcoming Pirates 5 will indeed bring backOrlando Bloomas Will Turner.Orlando Bloom’s return as Will Turner was first rumored back in September 2014, but today’s presentation was the first confirmation we have that he will be back in this sequel. He starred as Will Turner in the first three adventures, 2003’sPirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl, 2006’sPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chestand 2007’sPirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. He did not come back for the 2011 sequelPirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It was revealed at the panel thatKaya Scodelario’s character is named Carina Smyth, andBrenton Thwaites' character is named Henry.
Unfortunately, no footage from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was shown. With principal photography already wrapped, and nearly two years left until Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hits theaters, it isn’t known when we may get the first teaser. While we wait for that announcement, the official logo is just going to have to do.
