This marks the latest award win forDahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.For playing the titular serial killer, series star Evan Peters won his first Golden Globe Award while the show itself and co-stars Niecy Nash and Richard Jenkins also garnered nominations. Nash would win a Critics' Choice TV Award along with an NAACP Image Award for her role in the limited series. Peters would also pick up additional wins for his acting at the Satellite Awards and the Critics' Choice Super Awards.The show is expected to have a presence at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards as well.

Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Storywas developed for Netflix by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. The limited series takes inspiration from the real-life murderer’s story, chronicling his troublesome family life growing up to how he’d methodically choose, torture, and ultimately kill his victims. Along with Peters starring as Dahmer, the series also featured Nash as neighbor Glenda Cleveland, Jenkins as Jeffrey’s father Lionel Dahmer, Molly Ringwald as Jeffrey’s stepmother Shari Dahmer, and Michael Learned as Jeffrey’s grandmother Catherine Dahmer.

Controversy Came With the Accolades

The subject matter has generated a great deal of controversy forDahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.Some have argued that it was tasteless to dramatize Dahmer’s story for the show, feeling it was disrespectful to the victims and their families. Some family members of the victims havepublicly spoken out against the series. Meanwhile, the show has still garnered heavy praise, in particular for its acting by Peters and the other stars of the show. When accepting his Golden Globe, Peters said in his speech that he hoped that some good had come out of what was such a horrendous situation.

“I want to thank everyone out there who watched this show,” Peters said. “It was a difficult one to make, a difficult one to watch, but I sincerely hope some good came out of it.”

The show was also one that drew very high viewership on Netflix, prompting a 2-season renewal for theMonsteranthology series. A second season is now in development, and it was announced earlier this month that season 2 will be focusing on the Menendez brothers. DubbedMonsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, the limited series is set to debut on Netflix in 2024. Casting hasn’t yet been announced.
