Today we have a new rumor thatDaniel Radcliffehimself is being sought by Warner Bros. to reprise his iconic role as Harry Potter for a big-screen version of this play.
This new report fromNew York Daily Newshas not been confirmed byJ.K. Rowlingor Warner Bros. The source claimed that the studio wants to debut the movie as early as 2020. Here’s what the site’s unidentified insider had to say about what Warner Bros. is doing to make this movie adaptation happen.
“Warners is secretly working on getting themovie rightsand a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry. However he has made it clear that his mind is certainly not focused on returning to the role anytime soon - and that could be until he hits 40.Danielhad that job for over a decade with huge success and critical acclaim, but since then he has really established himself as a very strong actor with films like ‘The Woman in Black’ and his Broadway work. He doesn’t need to go back for money or to reboot his career, so he will need some persuading.”
Earlier this month,J.K. Rowlingrevealed that this two-part stage play brings Harry Potter’s story to an end. The story follows Harry as a father of three children, working for the Ministry of Magic, as his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of aCursed Child movie. Last month, a report surfaced that revealed Warner Bros. filed for a trademark forHarry Potter and the Cursed Childon July 8. Up to this point, virtually every other trademark filed forThe Cursed Childhad been done byJ.K. Rowling, which lead to speculation that a movie may be in the works after all. Regardless of whether or not this movie is happening, Warner Bros. will release the new adventureFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, set 70 years before Harry and his friends first enroll at Hogwarts, on November 16. The 27-year-oldDaniel Radcliffehas said in the past that he wants to put some distance between himself and his famous role, most recently starring in a trio of summer movies, the big-budget sequelNow You See Me 2and indie moviesSwiss Army Manand this month’sImperium.
