Daredevil: Born Again, theMCU’s next original Disney+ series, has promised fans it will follow the same tone and style of the beloved original Netflix series,Daredevil. But, according to showrunner Dario Scardapane, the new series will also look to improve upon one of the originalDaredevil’s biggest flaws.Born Againsees Charlie Cox suit up as Matt Murdock once again, with a bunch of returning favorites like Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, and Elden Hensen as Foggy Nelson.

During an interview with SFX Magazine (viaGamesRadar+), Dario Scardapane addressed whereBorn Againwill differ from the originalDaredevilwith the aim of improving some of the original show’s shortcomings. “The earlier show, at its best, was fantastic,” Scardapane began. Very few will disagree, asDaredevilis still considered, by many, to be the greatest superhero TV series of all time. But, according to Scardapane, it wasn’t flawless. He continued:

Still from Daredevil: Born Again

“At its worst, it was two characters in a room talking about what a hero is.I felt that had been done. I’m not taking swipes. I just didn’t want to hear characters grousing about their lot in life. I wanted to see them doing things.”

One of the biggest ways Dario Scardapane has alteredBorn Againto separate itfrom the rest of Marvel’s Netflixcanon is through the pacing. “One of our edicts was longer scenes,” he explained. “You had these long five-page scenes of characters hashing it out to make space between these massive action sequences. The way stuff has evolved since then, we’re able to do big action sequences at a lot more pace.”

“I really feel that Netflix’sDaredevil, which I know in my blood, was much more noir, andthis show is more New York crime story,” he explained.“It has elements ofThe SopranosandKing Of New York. There’s a feeling for those classic ’90s crime tales. It has a pace and a scope that, for a lot of reasons, Netflix wasn’t able to do. They were very dark, cinematically, not necessarily story-wise, although there were some dark elements. We’re much darker.”

Season 1 ofDaredevil: Born Againhasn’t even been released yet, but Marvel Studios clearly have high hopes for the show.Born Againhas already beenrenewed for a second season. In fact, shooting on Season 2 begins before audiences can even get their hands on Season 1.
