Dave Filoniis a busy man, and certainly one of the most integral cogs in theStar Warsmachine right now. Having had a hand in the animated series,The Clone Wars, the creation ofThe Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and may otherStar Warsprojects, it is no surprise that some of the projects he is working on take quite a while to make it to screens. That is something Filoni addressed during an appearance at Star Wars Celebration, when he was asked about how hisMandalorianmovie is coming along, and how it fits around his work on Season 2 ofAhsoka.

The future of theStar Warsfranchisehas never seemed to have as clear a direction as it does right now for a long while, with its divisive sequel trilogy giving way to multiple TV shows on Disney+ of varying quality, little longevity, and plenty of divisive fan opinions. Now, though, the focus is returning to big-screen offerings from the franchise, withThe Mandalorian & Grogu,Star Wars: Starfighter, and several other movies being in various stages of completion. However, for Filoni, there is a reason why his projects may take a while to make it screens. He explained toCollider:

Ray Stevenson as Baylon Skoll in Ashoka

“It’s a long development. One of the reasons why is I like to work on very large arcs, and I try to factor in all the things that I’m creating simultaneously and look at them and say, ‘Well, how do we do unique things? What are unique set pieces, and where is the story going? What’s the play of the story?’ I ask myself these questions. I have general outlines for all these things, general timelines for all these things. I keep moving the pieces on the board for a big strategy. That’s the way I’ve always worked since I started on Clone Wars, and I got to the end of that series finally.

You keep that in your mind in the future while you’re working on the present. So, right now, I’ll be on Season 2 [of Ahsoka], and as those stories develop, it might change things that would affect what’s happening in the future and what I would do. At times, it’s a balancing act, but I’m constantly working at it, working out scenes. I know several scenes and where they would go, so you just kind of plug it in as you go.”

“The force is with him, and I know you guys will be too,” said Filoni through tears.

Dave Filoni Has Become a Driving Force of the ‘Star Wars’ Franchise

As chief creative officer of theStar Warsfranchise, Filoni has become a walking bible for the saga, and is therefore in demand for his input on many top-priority projects. The problem with that is that he is only one man, and that means that some things just have to wait a little longer to get his attention than others.

Fans have an urge for everything to happen right now or as quickly as possible, and if something takes too long to emerge from the murky depths of development hell, then it has usually been forgotten or abandoned by audiences as a lost cause. However, given time to craft and create shows and movies that are more than just flashy special effects, who knows what magical adventures could await the new recruits of theStar Warsfranchise in the coming decade.
