Back in October, Warner Bros. announced a new digital TV series initiative, with one of the projects being an adaptation of the DC Comics titleStatic Shock. Just a few days later, it was rumored thatJaden Smithwas being eyed to play the title character, but it was never confirmed, and we haven’t heard anything more about the project since then. During an appearance at MCM Comic Con in London this weekend, actorTyler James Williamswas asked if he was interested in playing Miles Morales in the newSpider-Manmovie or taking the lead inStatic Shock. Here’s what the actor had this to say, with a wry smile, revealing that theStatic Shockproject is happening withJaden Smith.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. But yeah, it’s great to see thatStatic Shockis happening with Jaden, and we’ll see what happens, which way Marvel decides to go withSpider-Man. But yeah, I’d love to take a turn with someone who is, you know, ethnically ambiguous and turn it on its head and force people to see them in a different light.”
When asked about fans who want to see him play Miles Morales inSpider-Man, the actor had this to say about possibly taking on the character:
“I kind of follow the Miles Morales character quite a bit. My brother really did, so he had suggested that if they go that way, it could work. I’m open to the idea, I am. I’m not like starting campaigns for it, because I trust Marvel. I’ve read for them before, so I trust what their decisions will be, but yeah, I would love to do it. I would absolutely love to do it. I think there’s a few names in the hat that absolutely do make sense, it’s just about who’d be the best for it, but yeah, I’d be stoked to do it.”
Of course, it’s already been confirmed that the newSpider-Manwill be Peter Parker. And it has been rumored thatAsa Butterfieldis Marvel and Sony’s top choice to play this beloved superhero, although his casting has yet to be confirmed. It should be mentioned thatTyler James Williamshas no official ties toStatic Shock, so it’s possible that he could only be talking about the rumor that surfaced in October. But we don’t know for sure. When asked if he would like to take on any superhero character,Tyler James Williamshad this to say:
“Yeah, I would definitely love to. One of the things that’s really interesting are the type of actors who are taking on those roles at this point, these really character-y actors who are taking it to a whole other place and a whole other level. Yeah, I would love to do it outside of that world and inside of that world as well.”
