TheDCUis adding another MCU alum to its rebooted cinematic universe in a new action series that will push the genre forward in a big way. An international-based project from DC Studios will see aBirds of Preymemberrecast and lead an all-new story that has a talented action filmmaker at the helm.

According to Nexus Point News, DC Studios is eyeing Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy, Mission: Impossible) to star in an upcoming Korean TV series as Huntress, aka Helena Bertinelli, who will be half-Korean and half-Italian. The in-development project is set to be written and directed by Jung Byung-gil (Villainess). The rumoredHuntressseries is among several internationally-based shows in the works, according to the report. Mary Elizabeth Winstead played the DCEU version of the Huntress in the 2020 filmBirds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Does ‘Superman’s return get off to a flying start?

IfHuntressgets made, expect it to be a television series set in Korea and almost entirely spoken in Korean. The action project is among several in development at DC Studios that will seek to expand the genre into new territories. It’s an exciting prospect that will further help the company separate its DC Universe from the past and its current competition, while also giving a chance for foreign filmmakers to tackle superhero projects. As of this writing,Huntresshas not been officially announced by DC Studios, but if it gets done, perhaps it is the series thatGunn has describedas “my favorite project nobody even knows about yet.”

So, Are the Rest of the ‘Birds of Prey’ Getting Recast?

It is currently unknown if the crew from theBirds of Preyfilm will return in some capacity, but it is safe to say that most, if not all, of the actors will bereplaced in the DCU. Despite being critically acclaimed, it failed to recoup its investment at the box office, grossing $200 million worldwide. Directed by Cathy Yan, the film starred Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz.

Of course, if there is one holdover from the DCEU film, it is one star who has already worked with DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn before. Although Harley Quinn does not appear to be an important part of the rebooted DCU just yet, it is safe to assume that the studio prefers that Robbie return in the fan-favorite role. She appeared as the lovable antagonist inThe Suicide Squad, which is said to be partially canon in the new cinematic universe. Gunn is picking and choosing bits and pieces of the DCEU to bring forward, and while it seems a clean slate is upon us, there is still room for Robbie and others to return.
