Moanatells the story of anadventurous teenagerwho sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho} meets the mighty demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.
Disney has already had a tremendous year at the box office and they are hoping to keep up that streak withMoana. Theiroriginal animated featureZootopia went on to gross more than $1 billion worldwide this year, making it the second highest-grossing movie of 2016, trailing onlyCaptain America: Civil War. It doesn’t hurt thatDwayne Johnsonhas an incredible track record of box office success, rarely encountering a flop in his career, especially as of late. Not to mention that he is known for being able to breathe new life into franchises. He is arguably the biggest movie star in the world right now and Disney is definitely the most dominant studio in Hollywood at the moment, so expectations are surely high.
