In just a few short hours, fans across the country will finally be able to seeDoctor Strangeon the big screen during Thursday preview screenings, in what is shaping up to be a huge opening weekend. While doing press for the movie, directorScott Derricksonteased a major deleted scene that was filmed, but didn’t make the final cut. The director says that this scene was taken directly from the comics, which he hopes will be included on the Blu-ray and DVD.
Colliderrecently spoke withScott Derrickson, who revealed that a scene was shot that delves intoStephen Strange’s back story. This scene actually helps explain why Stephen Strange became a doctor in the first place. Here’s what the director had to say about this scene.
“We shot a scene… you know, in the comics, if you know the comics well, Strange has a backstory where his sister died when he was young, and that she drowned. That had a real significant effect, and was probably instrumental in him becoming a doctor. And we shot that scene, and I loved that scene. It was a reallygreat scene. It just didn’t fit in the movie. It felt like… it just didn’t work. But the self-contained scene by itself, I thought it was great. AndLulu Wilson, who was the little girl inOuijaand was inDeliver Us From Evil, played the girl. So I hope that scene’s on the DVD.”
