The Marvel Studios hype machine is about to go into full steam ahead on their next release, which is theBenedict CumberbatchledDoctor Strange. The film is going to introduce a brand new side of the Marvel Universe as well as a brand new, big character, so the studio is going to want to get as much attention as they can for Stephen Strange leading up to the November release. Though the studio skipped San Diego Comic Con in 2015,director Scott Derricksonhas teased that The Sorcerer Supreme will indeed be at the convention this year.

Derricksontook to hisTwitterto tease an appearance by himself and presumably other members of the cast and creative team behind the film atSDCC. The photo he included in his tweet showed aComic-Conbanner that featured theDoctor Strangeposter with an SDCC logo on it, so it is pretty much all but confirmed that Marvel will indeed be bringing the film to the event.Derricksonincluded this caption.

“Will I be at Comic Con this year? Here’s a hint…”

It makes sense that Kevin Feige would want to try and get people excited aboutDoctor Strangeat SDCC, because it is a very unknown property much likeGuardians of the Galaxywas prior to the film being released. Speaking ofGuardians, directorJames Gunnhas also hinted thatGuardians of the Galaxy 2may have a presence inHall H. He retweetedDerrickson’s tweet, saying this.

“Really? You’ll be so close. I might have to come see you.”

This heavily implies thatGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2will have a presence at Comic Con as well, which should absolutely delight the thousands of Marvel fans who will be at the convention. Even before the first teaser forDoctor Strangedropped, but especially after that, it was very clear that the film will be very different than anything Marvel has done before. Not only will it bring magic to the MCU, butDerricksonhas mostly been known for his work in the horror genre and it looks like he’ll be bringing those sensibilities to this film. In a recent interview with The Huffington Post,Scott Adkins, whose role in the film has yet to be specified, spoke about what he thinksDerricksonis bringing toDoctor Strange, hinting that this is Marfvel’s first ‘horror’ movie.

“This is going to show that other dimension side. I’m sure [director]Scott Derrickson’s going to bring some of his horror element into it as well…What’s great about Marvel is they don’t just make superhero movies. They make a different genre out of a different superhero film. Whether it’s a thriller, a straight-up action movie or political thriller, they’re likely to choose a different genre for different heroes, and we’re gonna see somepsychedelicstuff in this one. Very exciting.”

Many fans were pretty upset that Marvel Studios skipped out on SDCC last year, and this year other major studios like Fox have already said that they will be skipping out on the event, with some citing piracy of the exclusive content as a reason. There has been speculation that Disney is looking to keep the big announcements and reveals in their own hands at events like D23, but for this year at least, Marvel fans at Comic Con will be treated to someDoctor Strangeand probablyGuardiansinfo and very likely footage. SDCC would be the perfect time for them to drop a full lengthDoctor Strangetrailer. San Diego Comic Con is taking place July 20 through 24 andDoctor Strangeis set for release on November 4.
