This new land will be “anchored” by the current attractionGuardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout, with the the adjacent area currently known as A Bug’s Land, an attraction based on the 1998 movieA Bug’s Life, being shut down this summer as construction for the new Marvel land begins.
It’s worth noting that the poster for this new Disney California Adventure attraction released last month also featuredDoctor StrangeandBlack Panther. Between theGuardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakoutride, this upcoming Marvel land in 2020 and theseDoctor Strangeappearances, it’s clear that Disney’s California Adventure will be the place to be for Marvel fans in the near future.
Doctor Strangewas released in 2016, earning $232.6 million domestic and $677.7 million worldwide, from a $165 million budget. Benedict Cumberbatch revealed last month that there areno concrete plansforDoctor Strange2 quite yet, although just a few weeks ago, writer C. Robert Cargill, who co-wroteDoctor Strangewith director Scott Derrickson, teased details about what direction they’d like to take the sequel in, should they get a chance to make it. It’s possible thatDoctor Strange 2could be part of Marvel’s Phase 4 plans, but those likely won’t come into focus until afterAvengers: Infinity War(August 19, 2025) andAvengers 4(June 21, 2025) close out Phase 3. As of now,Spider-Man: Homecoming 2(August 17, 2025) andGuardians of the Galaxy 3are the only confirmed movies for Phase 4, but hopefully we find out more soon.
