Dwayne “The Rock” Johnsonis confident that Black Adam and Superman will cross paths in the DCEU. TheSan Andreasstar appeared on the cover of Total Film magazine’s latest edition and thus has been quite vocal lately about his upcomingDCEUanti-hero movieBlack Adam. Speaking to the outlet, Johnson revealed how passionate he is about bringing Black Adam to the big screen and the character’s eventual battle with Superman.
Johnson also admits that the studio made mistakes in the past with the way they handled certain characters and subsequently enraged the fans. But being a lifelong comic book fan himself, Johnson learned from the past missteps and made sure not to stray too far away from Black Adam’s mythology.

“You get one shot out of the gates to build these characters properly. We paid attention to some of the pitfalls that other films had experienced in the past, in the world of DC, and what, rightfully, got a lot of fans unhappy and pissed – and, as a fan, I was one of them. So, let’s make sure we respect tradition and mythology, but let’s not be handcuffed creatively. We can do anything if we keep the audience first.”
Dwayne Johnson andBlack Adam’smakers have promised that the upcoming film will honor the character’s violent origins. Hiram Garcia, the film’s producer, recently stated thatBlack Adamwill push the boundaries of its PG-13 rating and have a high kill count. Both Garcia and The Rock have expressed their desire for a futureBlack Adam vs Superman clash, considering it’s something fans have been campaigning for a long time. Johnson now reiterates that Black Adam and Superman will indeed come to blows one day.
“So to me, there’s a battle that’s going to go down one day, between Black Adam and Superman. I don’t know who that Superman is going to be, and I don’t know who’s going to play him. That’s OK. I don’t need to know right now. But I’m confident in knowing that [laughs]. And that’s based out of what fans want. We worked backwards from there.”
Unfortunately, Dwayne Johnson is in the dark like everyone else about the fate of Henry Cavill as Superman. There are currently two Superman movies in development, both eyeing African-American actors to play the Man of Steel. Michael B. Jordan is developing a Val-Zod limited series for HBO Max.J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coatesare working on a Superman movie set in the early 20th century with a race swapped Clark Kent/Kal-EL. Both movies are said to take place in their own universes. So the question arises: does Superman even exist in the main DCEU timeline? If he does, then who will play him? Even though Henry Cavill is committed toThe Witcherand several other high-profile projects, he is more thanwilling to play Superman again. He is just waiting for the studio’s call.
If it’s some consolation, at least we’ll get to see a clash between Superman and Black Adam in the DCEU. Hopefully, that Superman will be Henry Cavill. As for Black Adam, the iconic anti-hero will make his live-action debut in the eponymous film, brought to life by the charismatic Dwayne Johnson.Black Adamis directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani. The film also stars Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, and Pierce Brosnan.Black Adamis slated to release on August 26, 2025.
