Tom Cruise’sEdge of Tomorrowwasn’t exactly a massivebox officeblockbuster when it hit theaters last summer, but it still fared quite well. The sci-fi action-thriller took in just over $100 million domestically and $369 million worldwide from a whopping $178 million budget. While the profit margin wasn’t quite as big as some were expecting, the film was met with critical acclaim, leading some to wonder if a sequel is even possible. While promoting this weekend’sMission: Impossible Rogue Nation,Tom Cruiserevealed toMTVthat he actually pitched his own idea forEdge of Tomorrow 2to screenwriterChristopher McQuarrieand directorDoug Liman, and although he wouldn’t divulge any specific plot details, he did add thatEmily Bluntwill have to be involved.

“I pitched it to [Rogue Nationdirector andEdge of Tomorrowscreenwriter Christopher] McQuarrie and [Edge of Tomorrowdirector] Doug [Liman]. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it. It could be so much fun. Gotta get Emily. I was like Emily, please. She was like, ‘give me another year, please.'”
