As usual, most new movies hitting Max do so on the first of the month. But, there are a few extra additions peppered throughout the remainder. From a classic vampire movie and aChronicles of Narniasequel to theOpen WaterandPaul Blartmovies, there’s a wide assortment hitting Max in June 2024. Let’s start with a few big ones.
The Disaster Artist (2017)
James Franco hasn’t worked in the industry for about five years now, and for good reason. But, just like with his acting, his directing showed a lot of talent or at least ambition. For instance,As I Lay Dying,Child of God, andThe Sound and the Fury.
But, without a doubt,The Disaster Artistwas his best film as a director and even found somelove at the Oscars, earning a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. It’s based on the non-fiction book detailing the production of Tommy Wiseau’sThe Room, often considered one of the worst movies ever made. That book was co-written by one ofThe Room’s main stars, Greg Sestero (played in the movie by Dave Franco), and the intimacy he brought to his description of the production carries through to the film.The Disaster Artistis streaming on Max on June 1.

Chris Sarandon ofChild’s PlayandThe Princess Bridefame delivers one of his best performances as Jerry Dandridge, a vampire who has moved in next door to teenage Charley Brewster.
Fright Night Gets New Novelization from Original Film’s Director Tom Holland
Tom Holland, whose directorial debut was Fright Night, wrote the new novelization alongside A. Jack Ulrich.
Roddy McDowall is also a scene-stealer as the host of a classic horror movie-focused TV show who gets roped into young Brewster’s supposedly insane claims. With as many scares as there are laughs,Fright Nightis both an effective starter horror film and a perpetual treat for those well-versed in the genre.Fright Nightis streaming on Max on June 1.

Timur Bekmambetov’s stylish adaptation of Mark Millar’s graphic novel seriesWantedwas an unexpected hit back in the summer of 2008, and it’s still easy to see why. With a star-boosting performance from James McAvoy and an against-type performance from Morgan Freeman, it’s action-packed and wildly entertaining.
The narrative follows a disillusioned mid-20s man as he’s brought into a league of assassins. With seemingly supernatural abilities, the assassins train McAvoy’s Wesley Gibson in everything they know. But all is not as it seems. Perhaps Wesley is being used as just one strand of thread in a cavalcade.Wantedis amovie in need of a sequeland is finally seeing some progress on that front.Wantedis streaming on Max on June 1.
Keanuis a winner for both all the cat lovers out there and those who consider themselves fans of the comedic style of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. And while it doesn’t quite reach the brilliant heights oftheir sketch show, it’s a lot of fun nonetheless, and it did quite a bit to expand Tiffany Haddish’s profile.
