Family Guywill return to Fox for its 17th Season, andBob’s Burgerswill return for its 9th Season. Fox has been doing some spring cleaning, cancelingBrooklyn Nine-Nine,The Last Man on Earth,The Mick,The Exorcist, andLucifer, which came as a shock to fans of those shows. However, it really wasn’t all that big of a shock to see thatFamily GuyandBob’s Burgerswill return to the network for new seasons, especially since both shows are already in production for new episodes. Regardless, fans of bothFamily GuyandBob’s Burgerscan rest a little easier now.
Seth MacFarlane’sFamily Guyhas been along-time favorite for Foxand is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The hit series has been nominated for 12 Primetime Emmy Awards and 11 Annie Awards, and has won three of each. In 2009, it was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, which was the first time an animated series had been nominated for the award sinceThe Flintstonesback in 1961.Family Guyis known topush the boundaries a little farther than most showsand proved to be fearless when taking on people in the entertainment industry.
Bob’s Burgerswas created by Loren Bouchard and premiered on Fox in January of 2011. The show has since gained a cult following and has been nominated for several awards, including the Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program seven consecutive times, winning the award in 2014 and 2017. Additionally, TV Guide has namedBob’s Burgersone of the top 60 greatest TV cartoons of all time. The show, along withFamily GuyandThe Simpsonsare the kingpins of Sunday evenings.
Speaking ofThe Simpsons, the long running series has officially been renewed for its 30th Season. As of the 29th season,The Simpsonsbecame thelongest-running American scripted primetime television seriesto surpassGunsmokein its total number of episodes. Though, the show has been criticized for a decline in quality over the years and was recently in the news with the stereotype scandal revolving around the depiction of Apu, the show has consistently brought Fox ratings for the Sunday night lineup.
While Foxdumped some beloved shows this past week, it also revived Tim Allen’sLast Man Standing, which was unexpectedly canceled by ABC last year. The hit sitcom was the second highest rated show on ABC at the tie of its cancelation, so when it was canceled, fans and Allen were upset. Allen publicly voiced his displeasure with the network and fans started petitions to getLast Man Standingback on the air, which worked since Fox picked up the series.
