The cast forFargo season 3is really starting to take shape as yet another impressive and interesting cast member has joined the series. ComedianJim Gaffiganhas been enlisted as a series regular for the returning FX hit, which is expected to debut in the fall of 2017. He will be playing a police deputy named Donny Mashman, which seems pretty appropriate.

The Hollywood Reporterbroke the news that showrunnerNoah HawleybroughtJim Gaffiganonto the series for the upcoming season, which is rumored to be taking place in 2010. That means it will be following the events that took place in season one ofFargo, which took place in2006, but it is unclear how exactly the events from both seasons will connect. Especially since none of the cast members from the first season will be returning forFargoseason 3.

Jim Gaffiganwill be teaming up withCarrie Coonin the series, who has been cast as Gloria Bungle, the chief of the Eden Valley Police department.Fargoseason 3 will be lead byEwan McGregor, who has been cast in dual roles as brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. Emmit is well-known as the “Parking Lot King of Minnesota” described as a handsome, self-made real estate mogul, who is living the American dream. Ray, on the other hand, is a balding, pot-bellied parole officer who peaked in high school, and blames his brother for all of his misfortunes. Ray is said to be a cautionary tale who has a huge chip on his shoulder about how his life turned out.10 Cloverfield LanestarMary Elizabeth Winsteadhas also joined the cast and will play Nikki Swango, a “crafty and alluring parolee.”

Fargoseason 3 was able to landJim Gaffiganbecause he and his wife recently walked away from their successful TV Land comedy seriesThe Jim Gaffigan Showafter two seasons. The cast for this new season is shaping up to be just as impressive and unique as the first two season ofFargowere able to cultivate. Last season,Kirsten Dunst,Patrick Wilson,Ted Dansonand evenBruce CampbellasRonald Reaganrounded out the cast. None of them will be returning for season 3 either, because season 2 ofFargotook place in 1979. That isn’t to say an older version of one of theseason 2 characterscouldn’t return somehow, but that also seems unlikely.

There is no specific premiere date set for season 3 ofFargo, but it seems like fans of the show will have to wait for quite some time after the upcoming season for more of theanthology series.Noah Hawleyalso recently teased that there may be a large gap betweenFargoSeason 3 andFargoSeason 4, similar to what happened withLouieat one point between seasons. FX seems perfectly happy to wait for content as long as the content is good and the first two season of the show have delivered. With the promising new cast, it seems like season 3 ofFargohas the chance to deliver in a big way as well.
