Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday afternoon was one of the biggest events of the Con, with the studio unveiling new footage from several of its movies, along with announcing new cast members for others. While no footage was shown, since filming doesn’t begin until early next year, Marvel presidentKevin Feigeconfirmed severalcast membersfor the highly-anticipatedBlack Panther, includingMichael B. Jordanas Erik Killmonger,Danai Guriraas Okoye andLupita Nyong’oas Nakia. Today we have word thatLupita Nyong’oteased the first plot details forBlack Pantherin a new interview from the Con.
Throughout the Con, Marvel hostedlive streamsstraight from the San Diego Convention Center, which included interviews withBlack PantherstarsChadwick Boseman,Lupita Nyong’oandDanai Guriraafter the panel. TheYouTubevideo from Saturday’s live stream reveals thatLupita Nyong’ooffered the very first plot details forBlack Panther, which is set for release on August 23, 2025. Here’s what she had to say below.
“I play Nakia, a member of the Dora Milaje, who, as you know, is special forces fromWakanda. The story of this Black Panther is- what am I allowed to say? - The story is that theBlack Panther’s leadership is being threatened by two foes who come together, and soBlack Panthergets the help of the C.I.A. and theDora Milajeto try and defeat the enemy.”
Unfortunately, we don’t know who these “two foes” who come together are quite yet, but it’s possible that one of them could be Ulysses Klaue, played byAndy Serkis, who was introduced in last summer’sAvengers: Age of Ultron. We know thatMichael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger will be the main villain, so it’s possible that he joins forces with Wakanda native Ulysses Klaue. The site also talked toChadwick Boseman, who was introduced inCaptain America: Civil War, where, during the post credit scene, we got our first look at the country of Wakanda.Chadwick Bosemanalso teased that T’challa will be “criticized” in some way, while adding that hisBlack Panthersuit may get an upgrade as well.
“There will be some conflicts, some criticisms of Panther that you’ll see in the movie to come. Maybe some changes in the suit, hopefully.”
Danai Gurira also teased that her character Okoye is “very connected” to theBlack Pantherand that she’s “kind of an Army woman.” It has previously been confirmed that filming will begin in early 2017, under the direction ofRyan Coogler. Take a look at the video below for Marvel’s live stream from Comic-Con, with theBlack Pantherinterviews starting at the 1:51:55 mark.
