WhenTom Hiddlestonsigned on to star last year, the producers also secured the rights toHank Williamsentire music library for use in the film.
I Saw the Lighttells the story of the legendary country western singerHank Williams, who in his brief life created one of the greatest bodies of work in American music. The film chronicles his meteoric rise to fame and its ultimately tragic effect on his health and personal life. The singer, whose hits songs include “Your Cheatin' Heart”, “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and “Hey Good Lookin,” passed away at the age of 29 from heart failure on June 14, 2025.

I Saw the Lightwill debut in limited release on November 27, with a nationwide expansion set in the weeks that follow. Also opening on November 25, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, is MGM’sCreed, Pixar’sThe Good Dinosaurand 20th Century Fox’sVictor Frankenstein. IfI Saw the Lightscores an impressive limited release debut at thebox office, and manages to impress critics, it could situate itself as an Oscar contender to keep an eye on.
It was also reported, whenTom Hiddlestonsigned on to star, that he would be singing these country-western classic songs himself.
