In the mid 1980s, child actorJoey Cramer’s career seemed to be taking off after starring in the beloved movieFlight of the Navigatorat the age of 13. Sadly, it’s been a long road since then. And the young actor’s career ended up taking a very different path. Now he finds himself behind bars in a Vancouver jail. The Sunshine Coast Royal Mounted Police arrested the actor, 42, in connection with the April 28robberyof a Scotiabank in Sechelt.
Coast Reporterreveals that the actor, who now goes by his full name,Deleriyes Joe Cramer, wasarrestedin the town of Gibsons on May 1, charged with robbery, disguise with the intent to commit an indictable offence, failing to stop for a peace officer anddangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The latter two charges stem from an incident the day after the robbery, whenCramerallegedly fled in a vehicle in Sechelt when an officer tried to stop him. Here’s what CstHarrison Mohrwith Sunshine Coast RCMP had to say in a statement regarding the arrest.
“Despite the fact that a disguise was used during the robbery, the suspect was quickly identified by some of our officers, who had recently dealt with him on an unrelated matter. We hope that the community feels safer now that the suspect has been apprehended.”
Joey Cramermade his feature film debut in 1984’sRunaway, where he played the son ofTom Selleck’s lead character. He went on to star inThe Clan of the Cave BearandFlight of the Navigator, which went on to become a cult classic after its theatrical run. He appeared in two episodes ofMurder She Wrotelater that year, and in a 1987 TV movie calledStone Fox. Aside from an uncredited role in the 1996 movieIt’s My Party,Joey Cramerhasn’t acted ever since.
Since his acting days,Joey Cramerhas been a regular fixture in Vancouver area courthouses for drug and fraudrelated charges. The Sunshine Coast RCMP issued an alert forCramerin 2011 when he was wanted on fraud charges. Cramer is currently in custody and is set to appear in North Vancouver Provincial Court, May 10. Way back in 2012, it was reported that aFlight of the Navigator remakewas happening. But that movie has yet to move forward.
