With the announcements ofSilk: Spider SocietyandSpider-Man Noir, it’s pretty evident that Sony is trying to (let’s just forget aboutMadame Webfor a moment) build a kind of multiverse for all web-head-based characters. After all, they own the rights to over nine hundred names in theSpider-Manfranchise. It would be in their best interest to create such a fantastical story that connects different realities and brings various spider-people together.

If Sony does happen to pull off some kind of miracle with these Amazon Prime Video and MGM+ exclusive series, can we seeother variants of Peter Parkermake their way to the small screen, like Superior Spider-Man (Doctor Octopus’s mind in Spider-Man’s body) or even Cosmic Spider-Man? If this is the case, does the classic group of supervillains known as The Sinister Six really stand a chance? After all, Doc Ock, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman, and the Vulture have already had their time to shine on the big screen. We all know Sony’s going to want to bring something fresh to the screen — so about a family of dimension-hopping psychic vampires who want nothing more but to feed on every single Spider-Man known in existence?

Ai Apaec, Miles Morales, and Doctor Octopus as Spider-Man

With only one ominous member teased way back in 2001 (in an issue ofThe Amazing Spider-Man), The Inheritors as a family finally make their grand and evil debut in a November 2014 issue ofThe Superior Spider-Man. Coming from Earth-001, this gothic clan feeds on human, animal, and deity totems until they come across a prophecy that says that the Spider-totem avatars (such as the many heroes listed above) would end them. With this as motivation, they start rapidly traveling to different earths in order to stop this prediction from coming true — by outrightkilling all spider-variants. Some of the very first victims include the multi-limbed Spider-Man who was a part of theDark Avengers, Spider-Cat and Spider-Cyborg.

With an aim to ultimately rule over the entire multiverse, The Inheritors were a pivotal aspect in the Spider-Man line comics up to 2018, where the Spider-Geddon story arc brought everything to a climactic conclusion. Let’s take a look into how this family of Spider-eaters can take a bite out of the big screen.

The Inheritors Aim to Kill Every Single Spider-Man

The first thought that you might have is that the Inheritors are justanother form of Morbius the Living Vampire. The difference between the living vampire and this goal-oriented, murdering family is the inexplicable savagery that is shown. In order to convey how sadistic these beings are to comic book readers, artist Olivier Coipel featured them in a family portrait style on the cover of a 2015 edition ofThe Amazing Spider-Man— but with a shocking detail: they hang the heads of all the Spider-men they have killed like they are hunting trophies! They take extreme pleasure in what they do, and they won’t settle until they have a single variant on their wall (or eat them for dinner too). While not the complete story, this visual alone (if it was ever conveyed in live-action) would definitely send comic book fans straight to the movie theater to see this showdown between the webbed warriors and the Inheritors.

10 Marvel Characters Who Became Spider-Man After Peter Parker

A few heroes, enemies, and the occasional anti-hero know what it’s like to be Spider-Man.

At first, the Inheritors were just avatars for the totem of the leech — the lowest in the entire power structure, feeding off the power of others. But after some time, they started specializing in the hunt for Spider-totems. In order totravel freely across realities, they captured and chained the Master Weaver, who is the guardian of the Great Web of Life. Using this new power, they successfully gathered three totems (held by three Spider variants) and were just about to begin a ritual to rid the universe of every single Spider-Warrior. While the Inheritors were eventually overthrown, this scenario sounds like it could very well be Sony’sAvengers: Endgameif done correctly. Imagine the Sinister Six trying to combat many different wall-crawlers at the same time!

Bringing Horror to the Spiderverse

Let’s talk about the various members that incorporatethis vampire family. The parents are Solus and an unnamed matriarch. While the thirteen children are too many to list — the most notable are Karn and Morlun. Karn doesn’t like what his family is doing and ends up joining the various Spider-men, becoming the Master Weaver for a short time, trying to repair the Web of Life and Destiny. He was ultimately killed by his bitter sister and eaten by Spider-Mans (literally a hive mind of spiders). Morlun seems to be the strongest of the offspring, killing variants of not only Spider-Man but also of Iceman, Firestar, and Spider-Man 2099.

Spider-Man is iconic in part because of his unique eye-catching suit. Here are the best from the movies, ranked.

The Inheritors are truly a force to be reckoned with in theSpider-Manline of comics. Sony should take it upon themselves and utilize this malevolent force as a catalyst to create a much better coherent story in the Spider-verse. Not only are there many epic battles, but the numerous deaths wouldput a horror spinon the superhero genre that nobody saw coming. We’ll have to wait and see what Sony’s direction truly is whenSilk: Spider SocietyandSpider-Man Noireventually swing onto the scene.
