Are you in the mood to seeScarlett Johanssonas a crime-fighting cyborg? Well, then you’re in luck because Paramount has just released thefirst trailerforGhost In The Shell. Despite some serious controversy surrounding the adaptation, mostly because the lead role in the source material was intended for an Asian actress, this footage looks to change the minds of the public and get everyone on board.
This first trailer was teased by Paramount earlier in the week when they released a very brief teaser from the trailer on theirYouTubechannel. Prior to that, the studio had also released a series of five very brief clips that gave only a very general sense of mood and vibe forGhost In The Shell. This full trailer now gives us a much better idea of what to expect fromRupert Sanders' take on the beloved source material.

Thisanimeadaptation ofGhost in the Shellis said to stick very close to the manga that it is based on, outside of the fact that the producers have been accused of whitewashing anyway. This also won’t be the first time thatScarlett Johanssonhas had the chance to lead a major action franchise outside of playing Black Widow inThe Avengers. In 2014 her movie sci-fi/action thrillerLucygrossed an impressive $463 million worldwide. Paramount would likely be happy with a similar result forGhost In The Shell.
TheGhost In The Shellmovie is based on the very popularmangaof the same name. The story follows Kusanagi (Scarlett Johansson), acyborgthat is a part of an elite cybercrime-fighting task force known as Section 9. The series was originally published in 1989 and was written by Masamune Shirow. It is generally considered to be one of the best manga series ever published. That being the case, other adaptations ofGhost in the Shellhave come before, with an animated series, spin-off books and even a video game. This new live-action take looks to become the definitive version for modern audiences.
