One of the most delightfully odd offerings from Netflix in recent times was the wrestling comedy-dramaGLOW, based on the 1980s show of the same name. Unfortunately,GLOWwas canceled unexpectedly last year after three successful seasons, despite a fourth and final season already being announced. , who played Rhonda “Britannica” Richardson on the show, recently spoke to NME about the slim possibility ofGLOWgetting another season somewhere down the line.
“I can’t tell you anything hopeful. I have a feeling…Frasier’s coming back, so it’s never completely the end these days. I feel like when we’re in our 50s and 60s there will be aGLOWmovie. They’ll be like, ‘Put your leotards on, ladies’ and we’ll be slammed and broken in the ring again, apart from Alison Brie who will still be perfect and incredible like a machine.”
GLOW told the story of a group of unconnected young women struggling to make a living in ’80s Hollywood. One day, the ladies are given the chance to be a part of a wrestling show, theGorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, despite having no wrestling background whatsoever. The rest of the show charts the unlikely journey of the group of ragtag actresses and performers as they attempt to get their show off the ground.
Season 3 of the series ended on quite a cliffhanger, with theGorgeous Ladies of Wrestlingset to make a comeback on television.GLOW was renewed for a season 4that was meant to wrap up the many dangling plot threads that still remained. According to Nash, news of the cancellation left her feeling numb because there was simply too much information to process.
Likening the experience to a break-up, the actress spoke about going through the motions ofposting news of the cancellation on social mediain a polite and agreed-upon manner while still coming to terms with the fact that the fourth season, which they had already started shooting, was suddenly no more. For Nash, her memories ofGLOWwill always have a special place in her heart, as a project that helped her regain faith in herself.
“[GLOWwas] one of the most exquisite experiences of my life. That show meant so much to so many of us. To be in a show which was such a collaboration of freakish women, of misfits trying to make it happen, I just love that story. Working with those women saved me. My confidence was in the gutter after everything I’d been through with music and it was reinstalled in a wrestling ring, I can never recreate it, I can never replace that. That was one of the best, golden, most exquisite experiences of my life… Like a lot of people, I lost my job, and that really sucked. You have to let yourself feel the feelings and attempt to move on. Maybe I’ll just become a wrestler?”
Nash also mentioned being heartbroken over a mermaid costume planned for Season 4 that she will now never get to wear.
