Haloseries' introduction of Colonel James Ackerson in Season 2 has been a pivotal development, showcasing a nuanced portrayal byJoseph Morgan, known for his previous work inThe Vampire Diaries. Ackerson steps into a complex narrative, taking the helm of the Spartan program and immediately setting a tense stage with Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber), following a devastating Covenant Elite attack on Sanctuary.

In an interview withCollider, Morgan delved into the layers of his character, Ackerson, offering insights into the love-hate relationship audiences are expected to develop with him. Ackerson, described by Morgan, is a figure whose intentions and actions will unfold in a manner that promises to challenge and eventually win over the viewer’s understanding and possibly their allegiance. Morgan said:

Master Chief in his full green spartan armor and helmet with an explosion in the background in Halo

I really enjoyed filming my first scene that I have, the introduction of Ackerson, because that was the first scene I filmed, as well. So that presented its own set of challenges. But I think in Episode 3 there’s a chance to glimpse Ackerson in a more personal, private setting, and to see him interact with family members and to understand a little bit more about the man behind the position. That was probably one of the scenes that was probably my favorite scene because there was an opportunity to really see the cracks in the armor and to play a little of the vulnerability, to see the pressure seeping in.
