Harrison Fordwill not be attending the Oscars this year, as theCaptain America: Brave New Worldstar has been forced to cancel his presenting duties due to illness. While Ford has been present at several other awards ceremonies recently, including the SAG Awards,Entertainment Weeklyreported that the 82-year-old is currently resting at home after being diagnosed with the highly contagious shingles virus.

Shingles is often called adult Chicken Pox, as it is caused by the same virus. The virus causes a painful rash which manifests as a single row of blisters. According to the report, the actor was diagnosed on Friday, and that means he is unable to attend Sunday’s prestigious ceremony. However, he is said to be doing well, and hopefully will be back out in the world again soon enough.

Harrison Ford Loves Making Westerns for the Most Anti-MCU Reason Possible

Despite appearing in ‘Brave New World,’ the Hollywood icon’s reason for loving to make Western movies makes his Red Hulk role even more unexpected.

Ford was just one of the big-name stars expected to be on presenting duties at this year’s Academy Awards, with others including alongside Dave Bautista, Gal Gadot, Andrew Garfield, Samuel L. Jackson, Margaret Qualley, Alba Rohrwacher, Rachel Zegler, 2025 Best Supporting Actress nominee Zoe Saldaña, and Whoopi Goldberg, who returns as a presenter for the first time in a decade. The 2025 Oscars, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will air Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on ABC and Hulu.

Harrison Ford as Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World.

While Harrison Ford is never too far away from his next big role, this year has already seen him appear in the biggest movie to 2025 so far, and one of the biggest TV shows. On February 14,Ford stepped into the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” RossinCaptain America: Brave New World. Taking over the part from the late William Hurt, the actor not only got to play the role of Ross, but also his angry Red Hulk alter ego.

WhileBrave New Worlddid not hit any highs for Marvel Studios, it was a huge step up from the box office performance ofThe Marvels, and also gained strong reviews from audiences. A lot of the praise was aimed at Ford’s grounded performance as Ross, a tough ask when following Hurt’s performance in the role through several previous movies in the MCU, his final appearance being inBlack Widow.

Ford also returned to his role as Jacob Dutton in the second season ofthe Yellowstoneprequel series,1923. The first episode of the new season rode straight up to the top of the Paramount+ streaming chart, and it also becamethe most-watched premiere of any show in the streamer’s history. All in all, it has been a pretty spectacular start to 2025 for Ford, and the unfortunate reason for his withdrawal from the Oscars is probably not going to dampen that too much.
