TheHarry Potterseries went through tumultuous circumstances when it came to Lord Voldemort, with each movie dedicated to defeating or advancing one of his suspicious plots, which typically involved Horcruxes somehow. It turns out the toughest plot Harry, Hermione, and Ron ever faced was finding and destroying all the Horcruxes. In all honesty, Voldemortwould’ve lived longer without Horcruxes, but in making them, he caused a whirlwind of trouble. The plots of the earlier movies were tough for the young wizards when they weren’t aware of what they were dealing with, but in the scope of the story, they were easy wins. When they thought Lord Voldemort was only able to appear in memories or at the aid of another wizard, such as Professor Quirrell, it wasn’t as scary.

But inTheGoblet of Fire, when Lord Voldemort was fully reborn and walking among the witches and wizards once more, it became all too real. Further along in the series after Dumbledore successfully retrievedthe hardest Horcrux to findand was killed, Harry knew he had to finish what his Headmaster started and find all the Horcruxes to destroy them. Luckily, Hermione and Ron insisted on going with him because, let’s be honest, Harry would’ve never been successful in his search-and-destroy without them. Indeed, this task proved to be trying to their will, friendships, and mental health, taking more time and effort than anything they had done previously. But it begs the question: would they have been more successful or gotten their task achieved faster with the help of others inThe Deathly Hallows Part 1? Who else would’ve been useful in the hunt for Horcuxes?

Michael Gambon as Albus Dumbledore

7Albus Dumbledore

IfDumbledorehadn’t been tragically killed, he would’ve been a priceless asset for Horcrux hunting. He knew Voldemort, or Tom Riddle, better than anyone did. He was the first person from the magical world to ever meet Tom at his orphanage and spent Voldemort’s entire time at Hogwarts watching him closely. Additionally, he already knew about the Horcruxes, taking Harry on a trip to find the locket before he befell his untimely death. He also knew advanced spells that would’ve made it nearly impossible for any of Voldemort’s followers to capture the group. Finally, after trial and error, he learned exactly what items destroyed Horcruxes, which could’ve saved the trio countless days of searching. Even though he has done some serious damage to Harry throughout the series withhis negative actions, they still got along great and would’ve made a spectacular team.

6Ginny Weasley

Theoretically,Ginnywould’ve been a great addition to the group. She is intelligent, strong-willed, and pretty decent in the spell department. Not to mention, she is Ron’s sister and Harry’s love interest. She would’ve been a great fighter in battles and a good mind for the group’s troubles. The only issue is, she was underage and still had the tracker on her. Unless the tracker issue could’ve been solved, she would’ve only put Harry, Hermione, and Ron in danger from the fallen Ministry and Voldemort’s followers, leading to the Death Eaters being able to track them. Additionally, we could’ve really used some more time with Ginny and Harry together to cement their love story as genuine and notlacking in chemistry.

5Remus Lupin

Remuswas a great teacher and friend to have around in any situation. He was kind, he logic-based and intelligent like Hermione, and he knew years and years worth of spells and tricks the trio hadn’t had the chance to learn yet. As we know, he was theDefense Against the Dark Artsteacher inHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, teaching Harry the Patronus charm to defend himself against the Dementors. So, not only could he be a great help for spells and tricks, but he also could’ve helped them plan out their journey and gotten them to each place with a little less trouble. He already knew of the journey Dumbledore set Harry upon, so telling him wouldn’t have been an issue. The only real issue is that Remus isn’t much of a risk-taker and stays on the safe side of things, so he may have prevented the group from doing some of the daring stunts that got them Horcruxes in the first place.

To be honest,Dobbywould’ve been the number-one most helpful addition to the trio. Not only can he apperate in and out of places no wizard or witch can, such as the Ministry or Hogwarts, but he actually lived with Death Eaters. Dobby knew everything about the way the Malfoy’s ran their household and plotted their schemes, which could’ve been priceless advice to Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Additionally, having the ability to Apparate in and out of anywhere could’ve helped the trio in countless situations, such as escaping the Ministry, leaving Gringotts, and getting into Hogwarts when needed.

3Luna Lovegood

Luna’s personality and views on the wizarding world are so different from anyone else’s, which makes her an interesting addition to the group. Luna is often thought to live in a dream world, but in reality, she just sees the world differently from others. Her views may be a bit strange at times, but everything she says makes total sense. The trio is known for sticking to what they know and Luna could’ve provided an outside-the-box way of thinking about Horcrux-hunting. Additionally, she is very forward and honest, often times stating completely useful knowledge in the most casual way possible, which would’ve been welcomed when Harry, Hermione, and Ron became overwhelmed. These traits alone make her one of the best characters inHarry Potter.

2Neville Longbottom

At the beginning of the series,Nevillewas introduced as the little boy who was scared of his own shadow, often doing things completely wrong. But towards the end of the franchise, we see Neville transform into a strong, confident man, who values his friends more than anything. Although Neville built a lot of his confidence in his last year of Hogwarts, he still would’ve been a good addition to the group. He knew a ton about plants and herbology, he finally got a wand that agreed with him and figured out he was pretty good at spells, and he always ran head-first into any situation when it came to his friends.

1Kingsley Shacklebolt

Along with his presence at the Order of the Phoenix,Kingsleyalso worked at the Ministry alongside Arthur Weasley. Kingsley generally had a laid-back attitude and an understanding that sometimes you have to break the rules to do what’s right, which would’ve made him a good possible addition to Horcrux hunting. Not only did he have the scoop on the workings of Voldemort and his followers from working at the Ministry so long, he also could’ve helped Harry, Hermione, and Ron get into or out of the ministry with way less complications.
