It’s been seven years sinceHellboy II: The Golden Armyhit theaters in 2008, and hardcore fans have been clamoring forHellboy 3ever since. Franchise starRon Perlmanhas long fought to bringHellboy 3to life, but it isn’t known if this project will ever get off the ground. While promoting his new Amazon Studios TV series Hand of God, Ron Perlman revealed that he thought he was done with the character, until he heard writer-directorGuillermo del Toro’s take on the sequel. Here’s what the actor had to say in a newinterviewwith Empire.
“I really feel as though I’m done with the character. I don’t have a burning desire to put that shit on again. ButGuillermo del Torotold me what the resolve of thetrilogywould look like, in broad strokes, and it’s such an amazingly theatrical, cinematic idea, that I found it essential that we do it. We were designed to be a trilogy, with a beginning, a middle and an end. We’ve only done two-thirds, so I feel that we’re not really done until we finish it.”
It isn’t known if otherHellboystars, such asSelma BlairandDoug Joneswill be back for the potential sequel, but then again, we have no clue if production will ever get started at all. When first asked aboutGuillermo del Toro’s story ideas for thesequel,Ron Perlmanwould only say that it’s “f—ed up,” but he ended up dropping a few more details. Here’s what the actor had to say.
“Holy shit, he’s the beast of the Apocalypse. He has to take down civilization. He has to. It’s non-negotiable. That’s the foundation for the story, and that’s why I think it would be a shame if we don’t do it.”
Hellboy II: The Golden Armyended with the title character’s girlfriend, Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) revealing she is pregnant with twins. It isn’t known how long afterHellboy II: The Golden ArmythatHellboy 3is set, but the actor made it clear that Hellboy’s offspring will share qualities of both their parents, with one devilish and the other angelic. Here’s whatRon Perlmanhad to say in a statement.
“I’ll tell you this. The two twins: one would look like the mum and one would look like the dad. And one of them was going to be completely f—ing corrupt, the other one angelic. Which one was which? Only Guillermo would make the f—ed-up-looking one be the angel. So then that adds to the saga.”
