News broke yesterdaythat a reboot ofHellboyis now on the cards. Yes, another one.DiscussingFilmhas revealed that Millennium Media will be behind the latest attempt at a live-actionHellboyouting and that this one will be directed by Brian Taylor ofGhost Rider: Spirit of VengeanceandCrankfame. AndHellboyfans have quickly taken to social media to reveal who they would like to see take on the mantle this time around…One such choice, and it’s a good one, isBlack Pantherstar Winston Duke. Best known as tribal leader M’Baku in the MCU, Duke is also best recognized for starring roles in the likes ofUs, Nine Days, andSpenser Confidential, as well as theBlack Pantherfranchise, and certainly has the grit and the frame to step into theHellboyrole.

Sources have since claimed that production is looking to cast “an actor between their 20s - 30s for the role of Hellboy,” putting Duke at the right age. But, of course, there are other suggestions, including the likes ofReacherandFast Xstar Alan Ritchson;X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Swamp Thing, andKingdom of the Planet of the Apesstar Kevin Durand; and even action movie superstar Jason Statham.

David Harbour in Hellboy 2019

Others are just worried that the reboot will make an… unfortunate choice in who they cast asHellboy, with many concerned that Chris Pratt, who is in everything these days, or his Marvel co-star Tom Holland, will be asked to don the red horns.

Another choice put forward is actor Brian Gleeson, with the addition of his brother Domhnall as Abe Sapien. Gleeson (Brian, that is) has appeared in theHellboymovies before, as Merlin in the 2019 reboot with David Harbour. Aside from that, Gleeson is best known for the likes ofAssassin’s Creed, Logan Lucky, Phantom Thread, andDeath of a Ladies' Man.

Most Hellboy Fans Want David Harbour to Get Another Shot

While some of these choices are pretty solid, the consensus fromHellboyfans on social media is to bring back David Harbour as Big Red. Harbour led the 2019 reboot, and while it was mauled by critics, the actor played the part superbly, with many wanting him to get another shot at it. In what will hopefully be a better movie overall…

Sadly, it’s unlikely that Harbour will return, with the actor himself not exactly a fan of his first attempt. Not to mention him being incredibly busy with the likes of the final season ofStranger Things, his role as Alexei Shostakov, aka Red Guardian in the MCU, and many other projects currently in the pipeline.

And if they’re not crying out for Harbour, fans are asking forHellboy II: The Golden Armydirector Guillermo del Toro to return alongside star Ron Perlman and finally give audiences the trilogy they have wanted for over a decade.

Alas, it seems that aHellboyreboot is what we’re getting, with sources revealing that it will be based on the comic book miniseriesHellboy: The Crooked Man. A smaller, more intimate, lower stakes story,Hellboy: The Crooked Manfinds the well-meaning half-Demon assist a man who wishes to save his soul.
