Chris Stuckmann’sShelby Oakshas added horror heavyweightMike Flanagan. According toDeadline, Flanagan will executive produce under his Intrepid Pictures banner alongside partners Trevor Macy and Melinda Nishioka. The supernatural horror follows Mia (Camille Sullivan) as she frantically searches for her sister Riley (Sarah Durn), after she ominously disappeared in the last tape of a group of paranormal investigators called the Paranormal Paranoids. As Mia’s obsession grows, she begins to suspect that the imaginary demon from Riley’s childhood may have been real.
In a statement, Stuckmann shared his enthusiasm about working with Intrepid Pictures on his feature directorial debut.

“Intrepid’s films and TV shows have inspired me for years, and it’s a dream come true to work with Mike and Trevor on my first feature. I’m ecstatic beyond words to partner on the release of ‘Shelby Oaks.'”

Shelby Oakshas been in the works for several years. The film was born from an online campaign that involved found footage videos uploaded byYouTuber JesstheParanoid. The last video, posted two years ago, shows the JesstheParanoid speaking about efforts to locate her sister, Riley.
Shelby Oakswas financed through a Kickstarter campaign - which was created after funding issues and a potential strike between IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) and the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) threatened its production. The horror project landed on the fundraising platform on Jun 16, 2025, and accumulated over $1 million (from over 14,000 donors) by March 25. It remains the most funded horror film on Kickstarter.

“It’s been inspiring to watch Chris working toward his dreams over the past few years, and the tenacity and DIY spirit he displayed while bringing ‘Shelby Oaks’to life reminded me so much of my own journey over a decade ago. It’s been an honor to walk a few steps with him on his path and to offer support for Chris’ vision for his ambitious, unique movie. I can’t wait to see where he goes from here,” Flanagan said.

Flanagan has become a leading name in the horror sphere through numerous acclaimed films and series, includingThe Haunting of Bly Manor, Absentia, Ouija: The Origin of Evil,andMidnight Mass. His addition toShelby Oakswill certainly elevate anticipation for the film. Flanagan is also set to produceThe Room Returns!, a tribute to the infamous 2003 cult classic by Tommy Wiseau.
On the directorial side, Flanagan’s latest feature,The LIfe of Chuck, is expected to be released sometime this year. Based on a novella from King’s 2020 collectionIt Bleeds, the genre-bending film depicts three chapters in the life of Charles “Chuck” Krantz (Tom Hiddlestone), a man who grew up in a haunted house.The LIfe of Chuckmarks Flanagan’s third King adaptation, following his successful versions ofDoctor SleepandGerald’s Game…and he alreadyhashis eyes set on a fourth:The Dark Tower.He acquired the rights to the series in 2022.

Recent reports indicate that Flanagan may be adding his name to an iconic horror franchise:The Exorcist. He isin talksto direct Blumhouse and Universal’s follow-up film toThe Exorcist: Believer.
