It was announced back in August 2021 that Lionsgate confirmed that a newHunger Gamesmovie based on the novelThe Ballad of Songbirds and Snakeswas all set to go into full production early in 2022. It looks like that has proven to be accurate as a report byThe Illuminerdihas revealed the film will be shot under the working title ofButterflyand is seemingly sticking to its plan of shooting soon.

WhileThe Hunger Gamesmovie series ended with the two-partMockingjaymovie, author Suzanne Collins released a new novel looking at the younger life of the main story’s villainous Coriolanus Snow. According to details revealed previously by Deadline, “The prequel movie will focus on Coriolanus Snow at age 18, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem. Young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, he sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the Tenth Hunger Games… only to have his elation dashed when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.”

Hunger Games Prequel Will Reveal Snow’s Origins, Book First Look Revealed

While this is a prequel, and we already know where the story ends years after the events of the new movie, the film’s working title is intriguing in that it seems to suggest a metamorphosis taking place throughout the film. Considering this is a character who was hated in his role inThe Hunger Games, the movie will aim to give an insight into how he became that man and could even force audiences to see things from his perspective.

Suzanne Collins is Excited To See Snow’s Hunger Games History Adapted To Film

While fans will no doubt be looking forward to returning to the world ofThe Hunger Games, there is no one more excited than author Suzanne Collins. The author spoke previously about her joy at teaming up withHunger Gamescreatives Francis Lawrence, Nina Jacobson and Michael Lesslie for the new movie.

Collins said, “It’s such a pleasure to be reuniting with Nina, Francis, and Michael to adapt the novel to the screen and having them share their remarkable talents, once again, with the world of Panem. I look forward to collaborating with them and all at Lionsgate as we bringThe Ballad of Songbirds and Snakesto theaters worldwide.”

While the same main creators behind theHunger Gamesmovie series seem to be on board the prequel, there are currently no casting details known about the film, but with the production ramping up, it is only a matter of time before we find out who will be taking on the role of young Coriolanus Snow and other characters. While there is obviously a big-time jump between the prequel and events of the originalHunger Gamesstory, there will be plenty of Easter eggs and future plot points to watch out for when the movie makes its expected debut in later 2023 or early 2024.
