As the summer movie season winds to a halt, so are the crews on next year’s blockbuster summer releases. On Saturday, Marvel co-presidentLouis D’Espositoannounced thatCaptain America: Civil Warhad officiallywrapped production. Then yesterday, we got word from directorBryan Singerthat first unit production onX-Men: Apocalypsehadfinished shooting. Now, we have word thatIndependence Day: Resurgenceis officially in the can. DirectorRoland Emmerichbroke the news via hispersonal instagram, sharing a photo of a double rainbow from the set in New Mexico.

Production on Independence Day 2 got underway in late May, shooting on location in Albuquerque. The cast and crew of Independence Day 2 gathered for a live streamQ&Asession on June 22, where directorRoland Emmerichrevealed theofficial title,Independence Day: Resurgence. A new vehicle called theMoon Tugwas also revealed, along with an alien hybrid jet. We also got this official synopsis for the movie.

20th Century Fox has previously released a motion poster with thenew title, along with two versions of the logo and more information about the space vehicle known as the Moon Tug. DirectorRoland Emmerichdescribed the Moon Tug as a “workhorse” and the main vehicle of newcomerLiam Hemsworth. While the alien hybrid jet will also be put on display in the movie, we haven’t gotten our first look at that piece of hardware yet. Here’s what the filmmaker had to say about this new war vehicle.
