The 1990s are coming back to life all around us these days, with theFull HouserevivalFuller Housebecoming a huge hit on Netflix, and other networks developing a slew of programming based on 90s hits. One of the most popular shows of that decade was MTV’sBeavis and Butt-Head, which debuted in 1992 and even spawned the 1996 animated movieBeavis and Butt-Head Do America. The series was created byMike Judge, who revealed during a recent interview that the title characters may come back, but in a much different way.
The original series, which ran for eight seasons between 1992 and 1997, before a briefrevivalin 2011, followed the exploits of the title characters, who would either be watching music videos on their couch or get into various amounts of trouble around their hometown.Mike Judgevoiced both the title characters, and during an interview withRadio Times, teased thatBeavis and Butt-headcould come back in a live-action version. Here’s what he had to say below.
“Maybe it could be a live-action someday.”
WhileMike Judgewouldn’t offer more details, or reveal if he was working on a story, he did add that he thinks Beavis would be “homeless” by now.Beavis and Butt-Headalso spawned the animated spinoffDaria, one ofBeavis and Butt-Head’s high school classmates, which ran for five seasons between 1997 and 2001. If this live-action project were ever to happen,Dariawould surely have to be involved, somehow.
There is likely still an audience for aBeavis & Butt-Headrevival, since the 2011 premiere was the most-watched cable program of that night, drawing in more than 3 million viewers. The new episodes featured the title characters skewering music videos along with everything from the Internet and reality TV to mixed martial arts (MMA). Surely there is plenty for these characters to skewer now as well, if there is a live-action version.
Mike Judge, who went on to co-create and executive producer HBO’s hit comedySilicon Valley, recently teased that he’s reuniting with hisIdiocracystarTerry Crewsand writerEtan Cohento craft a series of anti-Trump ads, but it isn’t clear when these may debut. Hopefully after he gets these ads put together, he may seriously consider bringing back the dynamic duo ofBeavis & Butt-Head.
