Just how long willSamuel L. Jacksoncontinue to play Nick Fury in theMarvel Cinematic Universe? As of now, the actor only has 2 films left on his 9 movie contract. Speaking withIGN, the actor shares this bit of information as a matter of fact, but holds out hope that he will eventually extend his contract with Marvel:
“I’ve only got two more movies in my contract. That might be the end of it unless I get an extension! I don’t know…”
Figuring outSamuel L. Jackson’s list of Marvel movies gets a little tricky with end credit sequences and other appearances, such as his cameo inMarvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. He first appeared as S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Nick Fury in 2008’sIron Man, but Marvel had a tough time getting the much-in-demand actor to sign one of their extensive studio contracts. He has since appeared in six more movies, for seven in total, includingIron Man 2,Thor,Captain America: The First Avenger,Marvel’s The Avengers,Captain America: The Winter Soldier, andAvengers: Age of Ultron.
WithAvengers 2marking his 7th film in the 9 film contract, what are his next two films going to be as Nick Fury? It makes sense that he would appear inCaptain America: Civil War, which would be his 8th film. So is he only appearing inAvengers: Infinity War Part 1before his contract expires? IsAvengers: Infinity War Part 1andAvengers: Infinity War Part 2considered one big movie? Or is he skippingCaptain America: Civil Waraltogether?
These questions, of course, have not yet been answered. Nick Fury was left in pretty bad shape during the course ofCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, and seemed to be gearing up for a diminished role in future Marvel movies. Its also long been understood thatCobie Smulders’s Maria Hill would take over Nick Fury’s post at some point. But when is that set to happen?
As Marvel continues past this decade, growing into one of the biggest brands in global entertainment, we’re sure to see all of the current actors replaced at some point. But as you can see bySamuel L. Jackson’s comments, he is hoping for a contract extension with the company. If that doesn’t happen, its unclear if they will kill off the character altogether or simply replace him. Maybe a solo Nick Fury movie will happen? IsSamuel L. Jacksonstill waiting for that to happen?
